Job Details

The University of Virginia's College at Wise, a four-year liberal arts college located in the mountains of Southwest Virginia, invites applications for an Instructional Designer. UVA Wise is a 1-to-1 iPad institution recognized in 2021 as an Apple Distinguished School for its use of technology to create an innovative and enhanced learning environment. The campus is equipped with a mix of Apple and PC based instructional technology.

 

This position will provide faculty with course design support and coaching in creating effective and engaging learning environments informed by desired learning outcomes and a deep understanding of learning methodologies (e.g. ADDIE, Bloom's Learning Taxonomy, etc.); design, develop, and share learning content using a wide array of learning technologies in the development of course materials; collaborate, assist, develop, and participate in the facilitation of professional development workshops and symposia, particularly with regard to course design, online teaching, training materials, and technology-enhanced instruction; and other duties as assigned.

 

A bachelor's degree is required, along with a minimum of three years of instructional design experience, proven experience in learning management systems, and experience working with both junior and senior faculty across disciplines. Preferred qualifications include a master's degree, experience working with institutions of higher education, experience providing instructional design support in higher education, experience providing instructional design across modalities, experience collaborating with a variety of academic and administrative offices within a college/university, and expertise in adult learning theory, instructional design methodology, and technology integration frameworks. Candidates should have a knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to the position, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
