Job Summary

Under general direction of the Director, Special Projects, the incumbent provides leadership in the assessment, data collection, analysis, and reporting for Division-wide and organizational-wide comprehensive initiatives. The incumbent performs highly complex data analysis and assessment involving large data sets with minimal supervision and requires specialized skills and functional knowledge. This position works independently on projects and data analytics for the division and works collaboratively with all units for collection, design, and distribution of annual reports, strategic planning metrics, surveys, and other assessments as assigned. This person is responsible for collecting metrics broadly for divisional strategic initiatives, administering large-scale surveys, and oversight of the division's program evaluation process. This role serves as a key technical advisor to the Student Affairs Leadership team. This position is the key contact and expert for training and consultation for divisional departments related to their assessment efforts and guides their data collection on behalf of the division.

The incumbent uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all data analysis, representation, and reporting paying special attention to disaggregating data by student demographics. The Assistant Director is a key role in creating a culture of assessment throughout the division.

The incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts.
Key Responsibilities
  • Collect, compile, synthesize, analyze, and interpret highly complex data sets. Create reports, presentations, and infographics.
  • Lead the Division's program review and evaluation, annual reporting process, and other divisional assessments as assigned.
  • Supports assessment data requests and large-scale survey administration including collaborating with Academic Affairs and other campus partners.
  • Leads a division-wide assessment team. Provide guidance of best assessment practices and consultation for division departments.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Expert knowledge in applying survey techniques, operations, and systems analysis, statistical research methods/methodology, and the ability to interpret results. Possesses in-depth knowledge of project management and research. Expert knowledge in data management software including Microsoft Excel (formulas), Qualtrics, PeopleSoft, CSLink, EAB, Tableau, and CO Data Warehouse. Demonstrates a sophisticated level of knowledge around highly complex data interpretation and meaning from a future-oriented and broad perspective. Expert knowledge in statistical analysis using SPSS to analyze and report data. Working knowledge of writing student learning outcomes and keen grasp of measuring student learning outcomes. Expertise in both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Evidence working with sensitive data sets representing a diverse student population including underrepresented, low-income, and first generation to college. Working knowledge of technology platforms including, but not limited to Microsoft suite, Symplicity, Qualtrics, Zoom, Anthology Engage, etc. Working knowledge of design platforms (such as Canva, Visme, or Venngage) to create infographics and other visualizations of data representation. Knowledge of student learning outcomes and student development theories and practices. Expert organizational, time management, and project management skills with ability to be both detail and big-picture oriented. Completes deadlines and follows outlined timelines. Experience working effectively with colleagues across campus in other divisions. Skilled at organizing and synthesizing large amounts of information and data. Able to produce high quality data visualization materials to be viewed by a variety of campus stakeholder. Demonstrates high level of attention to detail and organizational methods Excellent oral and written communication skills required to address a wide variety of audiences and constituency groups. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills. Strong teaching, mentoring, and instructing skills Strong ability to communicate, influence, and negotiate with high-level contacts at the university and outside the CSU system. Strong ability to create effective and efficient workflows for projects. Must be able to create processes and outlines for staff to follow when completing projects and tasks. Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion. Ability to have equity mindedness in data assessment and visualization. Utilizes an equity lens in respectful interactions with others. Ability to effectively and sensitively interact in a culturally and ethnically diverse university environment. Ability to exercise excellent time management skills and prioritization of projects to deliver work product within stated timelines. Ability to solve challenging problems, often without clear solutions that requires substantial independent judgment. Ability to work independently on high-level technical projects and assignments, often without precedents or structures in place. Ability to proactively plan, develop and recommend solutions based on data findings Ability to use discretion in handling sensitive student data. Displays sound strategic judgment in distributing data reports, specifically knowledgeable in data security and confidentiality Must be able to take feedback from individuals and groups and implement with accuracy. Must be able to independently assess and prioritize work assignments. Ability to consistently report to work on time and ready to complete tasks. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and maintain a positive and respectful attitude with managers, students, faculty, and staff. Ability to maintain the highest level of discretion, and management of confidential information. Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position. Working knowledge of standard safe work practices. Ability to speak in public and make presentations in person and or virtual platforms. Ability to lift and carry ~25lbs of materials to and from event/meeting locations. Ability to work occasional evenings and or weekends.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Three (3) years of administrative work experience involving high level and complex data analysis and evaluation preferred. Master's degree or higher degree in statistics, mathematics, or similar field, preferred.

Compensation

The salary range for this classification is $5,908 to $11,481 per month.

Time Base

Full-time temporary position for one (1) year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
