The University of Puget Sound School of Occupational Therapy, which is ranked by The US News and World Report in the top ¼ of Best Occupational Therapy Schools, is pleased to announce an opening for a full-time (non-tenure track), clinic line faculty member to teach in our dual-track MSOT and OTD entry-level programs. This position includes opportunities for building an academic career that involves teaching, mentorship, professional growth and scholarship, and curriculum development. Opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration are also available.

Responsibilities:

This position carries primary responsibility for teaching required courses in the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) and Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) programs. Additional duties include graduate student advising, mentoring of student-practitioner collaborative evidence projects and/or doctoral capstone projects, ongoing curriculum evaluation and development, continuation and dissemination of one's own scholarly work, participation in admissions processes, and participation in department and university service. Opportunities for teaching and/or administration in the on-site clinics and/or community-based clinics may also be available. Teaching in our post-professional clinical doctorate (DrOT) program may be included in the years that the program is offered, depending on the interest and expertise of the successful candidate.

The mission of the School of Occupational Therapy to “prepare culturally sensitive graduates who provide client-centered, evidence and theory informed occupational therapy to diverse individuals, groups, and populations and enhance clients' participation in meaningful, everyday activities.” As such, we seek a team member who values experiential learning and has a strong grounding in the use of occupation-based theory to guide the occupational therapy process. Teaching in a manner that supports students in developing the ability to “use critical analysis of theory and multiple sources of evidence to make sound professional judgments resulting in science-based and creative solutions to the challenges of professional practice” is a priority within our program.

Collaborative teaching is a hallmark in the School of Occupational Therapy thus, teaching assignments may include independent or co-teaching in various courses. Specific teaching responsibilities will be determined according to the interest and expertise of the successful candidate. Primary expertise is desired in some combination of the following areas:
  • functional anatomy,
  • biomechanics,
  • applied neuroscience,
  • ergonomics,
  • work hardening,
  • OT practice with geriatric populations, or
  • research methods.

Standard teaching assignment is six units, primarily assigned during the academic year. Summer teaching, where applicable, is focused mainly on mentoring student projects.

Qualifications:
  • Post-professional doctorate. Candidates who are near completion of a post-professional doctorate will be considered.
  • A minimum of five years of professional clinical experience is preferred, however candidates with three or more years of clinical experience will be considered.
  • A commitment to liberal arts education.
  • Candidates must have or be eligible for a Washington State Occupational Therapist license.
  • Research experience and a plan for scholarly activities.
  • Previous experience teaching in an established entry-level MSOT and/or OTD program and mentoring student projects are highly valued.
