To be considered for employment at Willamette University, please complete our online employment application. Position Summary:
Do you feel that your unique experience is undervalued in traditional academic departments? Would you enjoy the freedom to design your own courses that cut across disciplines and sectors? What about working and living in one of the nicest locations in the world?

With the continuing success and growth in its MBA programs and the addition of a new Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program, Willamette University's Atkinson Graduate School of Management is pleased to invite applications for a non-tenure-track, visiting faculty position in Accounting with a two- semester appointment to begin January 2023. The visiting professor will be responsible for teaching several courses in both our undergraduate and graduate programs and will not have formal research or service responsibilities. That said, we view the holder of this position as a new member of our faculty. Successful candidates should be interested in fully participating in the life of the school, and the salary we can offer will reflect this larger role. Notably, we will also be searching for a tenure track position in Accounting this fall, and the holder of the visiting position is encouraged to apply for the tenure-track position.

Candidates from all accounting disciplines will be considered, though we are especially interested in candidates that are prepared to teach an upper-level undergraduate class in management accounting, as well as a graduate level introductory accounting course. The visiting professor will also be able to propose and design accounting related graduate elective courses, and we welcome candidates with innovative course ideas they would like to develop. The overall teaching load will be 3/2 over the two semesters, which is only one class more than a tenure track faculty member typically teaches.

Diversity contributes to academic excellence and to rich and rewarding communities. Willamette University is committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty, staff and student body. We seek candidates, particularly those from historically under-represented groups, whose work furthers diversity and who bring to campus varied experiences, perspectives and backgrounds.

Our School

Willamette University is a top-ranked, private university in Salem, Oregon, with additional programs offered in Portland Oregon. As the first university founded west of the Mississippi River, Willamette University has a long history of cultivating civic-minded leaders of business, government, and not-for-profit organizations. Its College of Arts and Sciences, College of Law, College of Art, and Graduate School of Management provide students and faculty with the opportunity to fuse theoretical insight with practical application in a distinctive, collaborative setting—namely, an integrated, medium-sized university.

Widely recognized for excellence in preparing managers to lead across sectors, the Atkinson Graduate School of Management (http://www.willamette.edu/mba) offers one of only two MBA degrees worldwide accredited by both the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA). The Atkinson Graduate School of Management is consistently ranked as the top MBA program in Oregon according to Bloomberg's Businessweek's “Best Business Schools”, Poets & Quants “Top MBA Programs”, and Forbes magazine's “Best Business Schools”.

The Willamette MBA is offered in several full-time formats on the Salem campus and in an evening format, both in Salem and from our downtown Portland Center. Situated in the heart of the Willamette Valley and Oregon Wine Country, Salem is Oregon's capital city, boasting a mild climate and high quality of life. Our prime location adjacent to the Oregon State Capitol affords us ready access to the Oregon Coast, the Cascade Mountains, and a wide range of recreational opportunities. Salem's local attractions are complemented by those of nearby urban, cultural, and academic centers in Portland, Corvallis, and Eugene.

Rank

This is a visiting position at the rank of Assistant Professor. In addition to new doctoral graduates, applications are also encouraged from current Assistant Professors with full-time teaching and research experience. The salary is very competitive when compared with teaching focused positions at AACSB accredited institutions.

This position is eligible for the University's medical/dental insurance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The most competitive candidates will have an earned doctorate in a relevant area, preferably from an AACSB accredited institution. We will also entertain particularly strong candidates with a CPA or CMA but no doctorate. The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate the ability to develop and teach MBA and undergraduate coursework. Practical experience in business, government, or not-for-profit organizations is a plus.

All University positions require that candidates submit to a criminal conviction record check prior to hire. Conviction does not automatically preclude candidates from being hired. Nature of conviction will be considered relative to the duties of the position.

You will need to upload the following as part of your application materials in the "My Experience" section labeled Resume:

  • Cover letter indicating the applicant's interest and addressing the degree of fit between the applicant and the Atkinson Graduate School of Management
  • Current Curriculum Vitae, including names and contact information of three academic references
  • Evidence of teaching excellence (i.e., recent syllabi and accompanying teaching evaluations and/or peer review reports)
  • (Optional) Evidence of scholarly achievement (i.e., copies of recent peer reviewed journal publications or work in progress, uploaded as a single document, up to 9MB)

If you need to upload a peer reviewed journal publication separately or evidence of teaching excellence, you may email the documents to human-resources@willamette.edu.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and will continue to be considered until a candidate has been identified.

Questions about the position may be directed to the Search Committee Chair: Kawika Pierson (kpierson@willamette.edu), Associate Professor of Accounting and Quantitative Methods.
