    Department Summary

    University Advancement (UA) supports the University of Oregon's (UO) mission of providing exceptional teaching, discovery, and service by strategically positioning the university to create awareness, build long-term relationships, and secure resources that increase understanding and further its aims. The division consists of approximately 200 employees primarily working out of Eugene, with offices in Portland and Bend. Departments within University Advancement include: the UO Alumni Association; Development; Advancement Operations; Federal Affairs; and State and Community Affairs.     The Advancement Strategies and Technology Innovation department is focused on finding the solutions for foundational issues that will best position UO Advancement to achieve its goals around engagement and fundraising. The department has a unique function in that it is based in UO Advancement, but also has a strong working partnership and provides strategic direction to UO Foundation (UOF) and UO Information Services staff.
    Position Summary

    The Associate Director of Data Quality and Stewardship is part of a team that plays an essential role in transforming University Advancement's use of technology platforms and constituent data, helping the UO become a national leader in the industry. This position is charged with creating a strong culture of data stewardship and ensuring that UO Advancement has complete and accurate constituent data, and provides an excellent opportunity to implement strategies around identifying, collecting, cleansing, and managing multiple data types that allow University Advancement to reach its engagement and fundraising goals.

    The Associate Director is also responsible for leading efforts to ensure that employees understand their role in maintaining consistent data and that they have the training and knowledge necessary. In addition, this position plays an essential role in automating data collection and creating data governance and sharing plans, in partnership with both the UO Foundation and the Director of Constituent Data and Technology Applications.

    To be successful in this role, the Associate Director needs to combine excellent communication skills (including the ability to work with vendors, colleagues, and external stakeholders effectively), a thorough understanding of how data is used for fundraising and engagement, and a high level of comfort working with large and complex data sets. This position will need to be able to develop and communicate processes and best practices around collecting and using data to individuals with varying levels of knowledge and experience with databases and other complex data sets.
    Minimum Requirements

  • Two years of experience in data analytics or similar experience working with data quality and integrity.
  • Bachelor's degree in data science, information management, statistics, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Coursework or certification in data science, information management, statistics, or related fields will count towards the minimum qualifications in combination with work experience.
    Professional Competencies

  • Expertise working with multiple complex databases and related data fields; including Advance CRM or similar platforms.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage stressful situations with tact and diplomacy and to use sound judgment and initiative, particularly as it relates to handling sensitive and/or confidential information.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal communication skills; attention to detail, and the ability to prepare reports, documents, and policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work with and provide education to individuals with a variety of backgrounds and skills related to maintaining data quality standards.
  • Understanding of best practices for data maintenance; ability to gain and apply knowledge of industry standards regarding data quality metrics, cleansing processes, and emerging data collection efforts.
  • Ability to develop and document processes.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Word and Excel or similar software; ability to work with workplace collaboration and productivity tools such as Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Wrike, Basecamp, etc.
  • Ability to handle confidential and discreet information; must sign a confidentiality/non-disclosure statement for access to the UO's donor database.
  • Ability to interact, communicate and work effectively with individuals, recognizing and respecting the many and varied identities of each person.
  • Commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    Preferred Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of statistical methods.
  • Experience in mapping processes and data flows.
  • Basic knowledge of gift processing best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including the ability to do proactive outreach and establish professional connections across multiple departments.
