The University of Notre Dame seeks to be one of the world's preeminent research universities with a distinctive Catholic character.
The Office of the Provost is led by the University's chief academic officer who is responsible for the stewardship of this mission. He or she will provide strategic leadership for academic budgeting, finance, and planning. The AVPAFA serves as the Provost's primary advisor on the financial plan for Notre Dame's academic core. He or she will manage a team of professionals to facilitate the annual development of the academic budget, multi-year financial planning and analysis, and oversight of faculty payroll. This leader serves as the Provost's principal liaison to the Finance Division (including Office of Budget and Planning and the Office of the Controller). The AVPAFA also works closely with deans, senior academic leaders, and the budget/business offices of the colleges, schools, and extra-collegiate academic units and acts as an ambassador for the academic core to various finance units of the University.
