Position Summary

The Division of Research and Innovation (DRI) is the central university office with oversight of SDSU Research Foundation, and the following units: Innovation, Research Operations, Research Advancement, Research Support Services, Technology Transfer, the ZIP Launchpad, Research Communications, Undergraduate Research, and a specialized IT unit. The leader of the unit is the Vice President for Research and Innovation. As the chief research officer for SDSU, the VPRI is responsible for institutional approval of all grant and contract proposals relating to sponsored research, instruction and service agreements as well as developing partnerships for the Innovation District as part of the SDSU Mission Valley Development.

Under the Direction of the Executive Director of the Zip Launchpad and in collaboration with the AVP for Research Operations and the AVP for Research Advancement, the Event Coordinator will provide support to DRI by planning and coordinating a number of events including but not limited to the SDSU Student Symposium, Faculty Book Recognition, Grad Slam, annual award ceremony, and other special events (e.g., the CSU Student Research Competition) that recognize the research, scholarship, and creative activities of the campus community.

Full-time, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., with approximately 5% of work hours variable to support event needs.

This position is physically located at the SDSU Main Campus in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/ vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or minimum of two years of experience in administrative support services and event planning. Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Publisher, PowerPoint, and internet navigation. Experience with Ellucian CRM or similar software.

Specialized Skills

Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,191 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,681 - $6,034 per month.

SDSU Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
