Position description

The Department of History in the School of Arts & Humanities at UC San Diego invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position specializing in the history of Indigenous people before 1830, in the territories now claimed by the United States. This position will begin July 1, 2023. The main research focus of this position must be in early American history (in the region north of what is today Mexico) that centers the narrative of Indigenous peoples. Duties include active research, graduate supervision, classroom teaching at all levels, and department and university service. The standard teaching load is four courses per year and successful candidates should be prepared to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Native American and Indigenous history as well as a lower division survey lecture course on Early American History prior to 1800. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.

Qualifications


Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Must be ABD in History or related discipline at time of application.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
Must possess a PhD in History or related discipline by the time of appointment.

Preferred qualifications
Evidence of excellence in teaching commensurate with experience, and publications appropriate to the candidate's experience. Candidates with demonstrated strong leadership in supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in an academic setting are preferred.
