Assistant Professor of Practice (Clinical Coordinator) – Virginia Tech Counselor Education Program

Position Summary

The Virginia Tech School of Education is seeking a colleague to join the Counselor Education Program who will contribute to our vision of preparing professional counselors and leaders in the counseling field. We invite applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice (non-tenure track) position on a 12-month appointment in our CACREP-accredited program. Primary responsibilities will include teaching clinical (e.g. Practicum and Internship) and content courses, providing clinical and administrative supervision, arranging placements for CMHC and School Counseling students, and overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Counselor Education Clinic. Our long-term goals include expanding the offerings of the Counselor Education Clinic, which serves an important role in outreach with underserved communities and populations. The Clinical Coordinator will typically teach a 3:3 load, with an additional summer course.

The successful candidate will be responsible for instruction, clinical supervision, and advising of master’s and doctoral students. The master’s degree program includes School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling tracks and is located at our Roanoke Center. Roanoke, VA is approximately 45 minutes from the main campus in Blacksburg, where the doctoral program in Counselor Education and Supervision is located.

In addition, a doctorate in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program at the time of appointment (preferred spring semester 2023 but negotiable). Required Qualifications
  • An earned doctorate in Counselor Education & Supervision, preferably from a CACREP accredited program, by the start date for the position;
  • Current licensure (or eligible for licensure) in Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor;
  • A clear and well-articulated counselor identity;
  • Experience teaching and providing clinical supervision to counselors-in-training;
  • Demonstrated experience with and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; and,
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cohesive team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to cultivate and develop community and/or school district partnerships;
  • Experience with the administration of a counselor education training clinic;
  • Familiarity with research and program evaluation practices;
  • Experience in seeking and/or securing external funding to support research and programming
