Position Summary:

The Academic Division Director manages an academic division including the design and development of courses and curricula and the direction of assigned faculty and staff in teaching and administering the instructional programs at a two-year Connecticut Community College which offers degree and certificate programs in a broad range of liberal arts, occupational and career studies. Some of the College’s learning programs may include continuing education and non-credit programs under the position’s direction.

Incumbents must possess a proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Masters' degree in an academic discipline closely related to the Division’s areas of instruction or a field closely related to administration of higher education, together with four or more years of teaching in higher education and/or academic administration in an institution of higher learning including two years of supervisory experience; or a combination of education, training, and experience which would provide the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties .

Succ essful Candidate must have or must possess:
  • Experience in academic curriculum design, course and syllabi development, and appropriate and effective teaching materials and methods.
  • Experience in classroom and laboratory teaching effectiveness.
  • Experience in research methodology and in the evaluation of academic program effectiveness.
  • Experience leading and directing human resources in a higher education environment.
  • Experience in Managing operating budgets and plans.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Nursing
  • Experience with a nursing accreditation process.
  • Experience in higher education administration.
Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of a Dean or other administrator, the Academic Division Director is accountable for assuring the successful conduct of the Division’s programs and for the optimum learning outcomes of its students through effective performance in these essential functional areas:
  • Program and curriculum design and development
  • Faculty selection and professional development
  • Instructional quality.
  • Budget and fiscal management.
  • Administration and resource management
  • Program evaluation and assessment
  • Community relations.
  • Student relations.
In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.

Starting Salary:

Anticipated Salary; $91,087 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits.

Selection Procedure:
