The Department of Advertising, Public Relations and Media Design
(APRD) in the College of Media, Communication, and Information
(CMCI) at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications
for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the area of
public relations to begin August 2023.

Who We Are
The APRD faculty are an inclusive set of researchers, creatives and
educators focused broadly on advertising, public relations, and
media design. The department serves a large undergraduate
population studying for a Bachelor of Science in Strategic
Communication, and a growing graduate program. CU Boulder is an R-1
research university with almost 30,000 undergraduates and 7,000
graduate students. Located at the base of the Rocky Mountains yet
only 27 miles from Denver with its lively advertising and public

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
What You Should Know
- Teach a wide variety of courses in our undergraduate public
relations curriculum and contribute to our doctoral program. Fields
of research and teaching may include: digital, social, and emerging
media and/or (2) corporate social advocacy/responsibility, social
justice and diversity, and science/health/risk/environment
- Guide and work with our graduate students as well as build and
sustain ties with the public relations industry.
- The standard course load is two classes per semester.
The public relations track in APRD’s Bachelor’s in Strategic
Communication has about 200 undergraduate students. It prepares
students for careers in various types of public relations agencies,
corporate communication roles, and beyond.

What We Can Offer
The annual salary range is $75,000 - $83,000.

What We Require
What We Would Like You To Have
- A Ph.D. in public relations, mass communication, or a closely
related field. ABD applicants with exceptional research, teaching
and professional experience will be considered with the requirement
of completion of a Ph.D. dissertation by the time of
- Experience as an instructor of record in teaching public
relations courses at a major university and a dedication to, and
experience with, inclusive pedagogies and the mentoring of a
diverse range of undergraduate and graduate students.
- Demonstrated performance in teaching courses related to
strategic writing for public relations, digital storytelling,
strategic communication, strategy, and/or research methods at the
- Experience or knowledge relating to mentoring undergraduate
students in formal ways, such as the Public Relations Student
Society of America (PRSSA) would be an advantage. We are especially
interested in candidates who can lead and direct industry
collaborations, particularly career advancement and networking
opportunities for undergraduate students specializing in public

research-centered, with the expectation that tenure-track
colleagues consistently publish peer-reviewed pieces of research
per year in high-impact journals or similar outlets. The department
has a Ph.D. program and expects that candidates will eventually
have the opportunity to mentor and conduct research with Ph.D.
- It is highly desirable that applicants have a record of
publishing in well-respected, peer-reviewed scholarly venues.
