Classification Salary Range: $3,977 - $7,197 monthly

The maximum salary budgeted for this position by the department is $4,500.

The final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

About the Position

The Department of Theatre and Dance is seeking a Costume Shop Coordinator to join the team! Under the general direction of the Academic Resource Manager for the College of Arts and Humanities and in collaboration with the Department Chair and the Costume Designer, the incumbent is responsible for building 6 mainstage shows and additional shows for Theatre & Dance. The incumbent serves as the lead person for student assistants and oversees student work assignments. The incumbent will have the opportunity to design costumes as needed.

This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position. The incumbent must be able to work some weekends and evenings.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist Design Faculty with designing costumes for Theater Arts productions and Dance concert
  • Assist Design Faculty with designing hair, wigs and make up for Theater Arts productions and Dance
  • Sew or oversee the construction of all costumes and accessories through knowledge of pattern drafting, tailoring, draping, commercial pattern construction and dyeing techniques
  • Maintain costumes through washing, dry cleaning and repairing
  • Maintain Costume Shop
  • Maintain costume budget for each production; purchases necessary materials and supplies as needed; arrange for rentals of costumes as needed
  • Serve as lead person for all costume shop, wardrobe, wig and make up personnel including student assistants

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Equivalent to 36 semester units of related college coursework.
  • Experience: Three years of related professional or technical experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred Education: BA, BFA or MFA with an emphasis in Costume Design
  • Preferred Experience: 3-5 years of experience as a costume shop supervisor with costume design, construction, alteration experience.
