Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Academics and under limited supervision of the Director of the School of Information, and receiving work lead direction from the Marketing and Outreach Specialist of the School of Information within the College of Professional and Global Education, the Social Media Coordinator helps oversee the school’s various social media platforms and the overall user experience (UX) of its digital spaces. For social media this includes crafting and designing messaging, posting, and responding to questions and comments as well as working with the marketing and communications team to implement a vibrant and robust social media presence across all channels. The incumbent recommends usability and user experience (UX) of its website and other digital environments. This includes design, information organization, testing, and gathering continuous feedback from users to ensure a high quality user experience when engaging with and seeking information with School of Information digital spaces.

The School of Information (SOI) offers three master’s degree programs (MLIS, MARA, and Informatics), a post-master’s certificate program in library and information science, and an advanced certificate in the strategic management of digital assets and services. These programs serve over 2000 students drawn from California, other US States, Canada and several other countries. All degrees and certificates are delivered 100% online. All communication with students and faculty is conducted 100% online.

Key Responsibilities
  • Designing, posting, and responding to comments across social media platforms
  • Planning and developing content and policies that oversee social media activities
  • Participation in collaborative team meetings with administration and marketing team
  • Research and development into new ways of using social media either in existing platforms or on new ones
  • Reviewing and designing/redesigning digital content on website, social media, virtual reality spaces
  • User analysis and user testing
  • Review information architecture and recommend changes as appropriate
  • Review of changes and usability of new refinements and updates including analysis of web metrics
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge and ability to use social media applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and to quickly become proficient in new social media platforms as they become available
  • Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications
  • Thorough knowledge and ability to use software applications, such as: PeopleSoft, Google Apps, MS Office, Qualtrics, Canvas, Zoom, Drupal
  • Ability to scale to new platforms as they are introduced
  • Knowledge and ability to research, collect, compile, organize, analyze, interpret, and evaluate data and make verbal and written presentations based on these data
Required Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training
  • Two years of administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science
  • Experience using a wide variety of social media platforms for recruitment purposes
  • Experience in web site design
  • Experience using social media tools
  • Working experience with researching, analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating data
  • Experience with user experience and usability concepts and tools
Compensation

Classification: Administrative Analyst/Specialist - Exempt I
Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,000/month - $5,350/month
CSU Salary Range: $4,170/month - $7,545/month
