Tenure-Track Positions:

For all tenure-track positions, a terminal degree in the respective field is required at the time appointment begins. Duties for tenure eligible positions include research and teaching in the respective field, as well as service to the university. Our scholar-teacher model values faculty research, classroom, instruction, and student-faculty interaction, within a strong liberal arts tradition comprising several dozen academic disciplines.

At minimum, applicants for tenure-track positions will be asked to submit a curriculum vitae and a cover letter, a statement on teaching and research interests, and a statement describing previous professional experience or future plans (or both) that demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

CHEMISTRY. Assistant Professor. (Specialization: Analytical Chemistry. Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or a related field at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2023). Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate research is preferred. Evidence of scholarly achievement or demonstrated potential as a scholar. Postdoctoral research experience is highly desirable.)

The Department of Chemistry at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in Analytical Chemistry. Appointment will begin August 10, 2023. We are interested in individuals with research and teaching expertise in Analytical Chemistry or related fields. Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. The applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant, externally funded research program that inspires a highly motivated undergraduate student body. There is also the opportunity to work with Master’s students. Teaching expectation is 1 lecture and 1 laboratory course each semester. Successful applicants must possess the skills to teach compelling courses in Analytical Chemistry and other lecture and seminar-style courses, and to contribute to the general education (COLL) curriculum.

COMPUTER SCIENCE. Assistant Professor. (Specialization: Open, to include cybersecurity, machine learning/artificial intelligence, software engineering, and the broader area of data science. Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in computer science or a related field at the time of appointment (August 10, 2023) and must have a strong research record and a commitment to quality teaching.)

The Department of Computer Science at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for multiple tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 10, 2023. We are interested in exceptional applicants from all areas of computer science. We are particularly interested in the areas of cybersecurity, machine learning/artificial intelligence, software engineering, and the broader area of data science to foster collaborations with the newly developing department of Data Science at William & Mary. Opportunities for collaboration exist also with nearby NASA Langley and DOE's Jefferson Lab in a variety of research areas such as high-performance computing, scientific computing, scientific machine learning, robotics, software engineering, and cybersecurity. The successful applicant will be expected to establish a high-quality research program, publish research results in top venues, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise graduate and undergraduate research, and attract external funding to support their research activities.

DATA SCIENCE. Assistant Professor. (Specialization: Data visualization, data analytics (incl. artificial intelligence and machine learning, network analysis, natural language processing), data policy and ethics, data engineering (esp. high velocity data acquisition), and large scale simulations and modeling in support of diverse applications. Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Data Science, Information Science, Computer Science, or a related field by the time of appointment (August 10, 2023). Preferred Qualifications: Postdoctoral research experience is desirable, and previous experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate and graduate research is a plus.)

The Data Science unit at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for multiple tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level in Data Science. Appointments will begin August 10, 2023. We are primarily interested in individuals with expertise in data visualization, data analytics (incl. artificial intelligence and machine learning, network analysis, natural language processing), data policy and ethics, data engineering (esp. high velocity data acquisition), and large scale simulations and modeling in support of diverse applications. Exceptional applicants from other areas of Data Science may also be considered. Successful applicants are expected to establish and maintain a vibrant externally funded research program that inspires a highly motivated graduate and undergraduate student body, and to take advantage of the collaboration opportunities that W&M is offering. Teaching expectation is one course per semester. Successful applicants should have a broad knowledge of data analytics, with a strong interest in teaching to multidisciplinary, liberal arts audiences, including students in disciplines both inside and outside of traditional STEM areas. They are expected to contribute to a Data Science unit that builds on the diverse expertise of William & Mary to establish a nationwide leading program.

GEOLOGY. Assistant Professor. (Specialization: Physical Geomorphology with preference given to those who apply field and/or remote sensing techniques to solve geologic problems. Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Geology or a related discipline at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2023). Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate research is preferred.)

The Department of Geology at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in Physical Geomorphology with preference given to those who apply field and/or remote sensing techniques to solve geologic problems. Additional areas of specialty may include remote sensing, GIS, shallow geophysics, basin analysis, stratigraphy, and planetary geology. Appointment will begin August 10, 2023. The applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant externally funded research program that incorporates mentorship of undergraduate research students. Teaching expectation is 2 courses per semester. Successful applicants must possess the skills to teach Earth Surface Processes and other geology major courses as well as to contribute courses in geology at the introductory through advanced undergraduate level and advise research students in their subdiscipline. The Department of Geology has eight full-time faculty and graduates ~30 undergraduate majors per year all of whom complete a senior research project. The Department of Geology works closely with the College’s interdisciplinary Environment & Sustainability program as well as the Center for Geospatial Analysis.

KINESIOLOGY. Assistant Professor. (Specialization: Public/Global Health. Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in an area of Public Health or Global Health or a related field with a research focus at population level, at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2023). Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate research is preferred. Evidence of scholarly achievement or demonstrated potential as a scholar. Postdoctoral research experience is desirable. Applicants whose expertise and research complement the department’s current faculty and teaching are desirable. For example, those who are interested in the impact of social and environmental issues on Public Health.)

The Department of Kinesiology at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in Public or Global Health. Appointment will begin August 10, 2023. We are interested in individuals with research and teaching expertise in all areas of Public and Global Health, including candidates specializing in areas currently taught at the institution such as Epidemiology, Health Policy, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Global Health, and Environmental Health. Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. Teaching expectation is 2 courses per semester. KINESIOLOGY. Assistant Professor. (Specialization: Human Nutrition. Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in an area of nutrition or a related field at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2023). Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate research is preferred. Evidence of scholarly achievement or demonstrated potential as a scholar. Postdoctoral research experience is desirable. Applicants whose expertise and research complement the department’s current faculty and teaching are desirable. For example, human biochemical or molecular nutrition, clinical or behavioral nutrition, or population approaches such as nutritional epidemiology.)

Preferred Qualifications: Evidence of scholarly achievement and potential as a mentor and teacher for undergraduate and graduate students.) 

The Department of Physics at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in plasma physics. Appointment will begin August 10, 2023. Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. The applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant research program that inspires a highly motivated undergraduate and graduate student body, which includes advising Ph.D. students as well as mentoring undergraduate capstone projects. The department currently has two faculty members active in plasma physics, covering theoretical, computational and experimental plasma physics, and is looking for applicants whose research would align with the broader US plasma/fusion community vision. Teaching expectation is the traditional load for a research university.
