VCU Office of Institutional Equity, Effectiveness,& Success (IES) seeks a research assistant to support scholarly productivity and to support grant administration. Under the direction of leadership, the assistant will work both independently and collaboratively on projects centered upon educational equity and health equity.

Duties and Responsibilities:

While a research assistant is expected to contribute in many ways to the research project, typical responsibilities include the following:
  • Conduct literature reviews
  • Collect and analyze data
  • Prepare materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations
  • Prepare materials for VCU Human Subjects Committee review (if applicable)
  • Recruit and/or interview subjects
  • Maintain accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary
  • Summarize interviews
  • Provide ready access to all experimental data for the researcher
  • Request or acquire equipment or supplies necessary for the project
  • Manage and respond to project-related email
  • Prepare, maintain, and update research materials
  • Organize, attend and occasionally lead project meetings
  • Facilitate communication amongst and between research projects and project teams
  • Summarize project findings
  • Prepare progress reports for the PI and funding agency
  • Prepare other articles, reports, and presentations
  • Monitor the project budget
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor/researcher. Work requirements and schedules must be discussed with the supervisor/researcher to ensure that the work priorities can be accomplished in the 10-15 work hours scheduled for the week.
Minimum qualifications/requirements
  • Academic and/or work experience related to the field of research, as defined by the supervisor/researcher
  • Experience with specialized software or datasets, as required by the supervisor/researcher
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
  • Satisfactory academic progress, as defined by the supervisor/researcher
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and familiarity with scientific writing

Salary Range: $17 per hour
