Accounting Tenure-Track Assistant Professor

The Accounting and Finance (ACFN) Department of the Collat School of Business at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks applicants for a tenure-track, full-time, assistant professor in accounting with a focus on Taxation to begin Fall 2023. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary is competitive and benefits are excellent.

 

Required:

 

  • A doctorate in Accounting/Business Administration from a AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accredited business school, or ABD if it is clear that the degree will be conferred by the appointment date. Evidence of an active research agenda and/or potential for high quality peer-reviewed research. Recent proven record of teaching taxation for individuals, partnerships, corporations, estates, and trusts at the undergraduate and master’s levels. Evidence of excellent teaching effectiveness in accounting courses, especially taxation, at the college/university level. Evidence of developing and delivering online and/or face-to-face courses. Evidence of substantial student engagement especially engaging students with the business and professional accounting communities.

Preferred:

 

  • Professional certification (i.e., CPA) and public accounting/industry experience. Willingness to incorporate business analytics into their courses.

The accounting program offers an undergraduate degree as well as a master’s in accounting. AACSB has accredited both accounting programs for more than 30 years and they were reaccredited in 2022. Degree programs in both accounting and finance are offered on campus and online. We value innovative teaching practices and academic and career success for our students. Primary teaching responsibilities include graduate and undergraduate courses. Specific teaching assignments include developing and delivering online and/or face-to-face courses using the Canvas Learning Management System. UAB has excellent teaching facilities and support, including multimedia classrooms in a state-of-the-art new building and computer equipment and software to meet teaching needs.

 

The Accounting (AC) group within the ACFN department has a variety of research interests, including archival, behavioral, and education research. We emphasize and support high-quality peer-reviewed research with an attractive research incentive program. The university administration also supports other research activities and cross-disciplinary collaborations across the university and with the business community.
