Mission or Goal of Unit:
The mission is to improve the mental health of individuals and their families through clinical care, research, education, and public awareness across the adult ambulatory spectrum.

Chief Purpose of this position:
The Department of Psychiatry is seeking physician candidates for a Division Chair and Medical Director as Faculty, in the Division of Adult Ambulatory. The psychiatrist will be responsible for leading, managing, and enhancing the academic, clinical and research functions of the adult ambulatory division; reporting directly to the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry. The Division Chair will be expected to build and grow clinical, research, and academic programs of excellence, innovate, and to foster collaborative relationships between the department and our clinical partners, the community we serve, and the academic medical center.

Position Responsibilities:
Administration: Serving as Division Chair and Medical Director of Adult Ambulatory Division

Clinical: Providing primarily outpatient services and rotational weekend inpatient coverage and weekday/weekend call

Teaching: Teaching and supervision of trainees

Scholarship: Scholarly activities, including program evaluation, research, publications, presentations at national meetings and participation in appropriate academic organizations.

Service: Serving on University, Health System, SoM, Department of Psychiatry committees, etc. to enhance and promote the service needs and policy making functions of the university, medical center, department, and division.

Required Qualifications:
  • MD/DO or equivalent Medical Degree
  • Clinical Training in Psychiatry and certification through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
  • Virginia state medical licensure or eligibility
  • Experience in the clinical treatment of adults and families
  • Teaching and supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated academic and clinical leadership experience in a psychiatry program at a major academic healthcare organization. Leadership experience should include clinical practice oversight, strategic planning, direct faculty/provider oversight, managing staffing and recruitment, and faculty and trainee mentoring.
  • Proven background in clinical care optimization, quality, safety and patient engagement; research and educating trainees.
  • Academic credentials and experience to qualify for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at VCU School of Medicine. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.
  • Ability to work as a member of interdisciplinary team and demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
  • Experience fostering and leading medical education programming that supports, develops, and mentors the next generation of clinical and scientific experts in adult ambulatory Psychiatry.
  • Demonstrated track record of active participation in multidisciplinary clinical programs focused on patient-centered care.
