Mission or Goal of Unit:
The mission of the School of Nursing is to shape the future of nursing through the power of education, discovery, and collaboration.
Chief Purpose of this position:
VCU School of Nursing invites candidates to apply to the Director, Langston Center for Innovation in Quality and Safety position.
This faculty position will support full-time or part-time employment with a tenured or non-tenured appointment.
The Director oversees the Langston Center's programs, relationships, and fiscal resources that support the Center’s mission and purpose. The Director plans and executes programs and initiatives that advance innovations that promote quality and safety in healthcare. This includes integrating local and regional nursing and interprofessional efforts toward leadership development, health equity and social justice, health policy, wellness and resilience, technological advancement, and implementation of evidence-based practice. Within the School, the Director engages with senior leaders to develop novel and integrative pathways to support the healthcare mission through faculty development, student engagement, curriculum, and philanthropic initiatives. Within the university community and health system, the Director forges relationships to promote and strengthen these integrative pathways between the SON, the health system, and the community.
The Director position itself represents 50% administrative effort. For individuals seeking a full-time appointment, the remaining effort will be assigned to teaching, scholarship and/or service within the school or university. Faculty appointment (tenured or non-tenured), rank, and salary are dependent on demonstrated professional achievements.
Position Responsibilities:
- Congruent with its mission and goals, designs relevant and
timely programs and initiatives that benefit multi-dimensional
stakeholder needs and/or interests (students, faculty, health
system care providers, other university centers and the lay
public)
- Advances and/or leads professional networks within the VCU
community and other applicable organizations.
- In collaboration with and supported by the Office of Research,
Scholarship & Innovation and the Development Office, secures
grant, philanthropic, or other funding to ensure the viability and
expansion of the Center's mission
- Supports the School of Nursing Strategic Plan and the research,
academic, and practice missions
- Actively engages the health system, university, and the school
in collaborations that promote health and wellness through
innovation.
- Prepares an annual budget in accordance with guidelines
- Prepares grants, reports, and other Center-related
communications
- Earned doctorate in nursing or related field with field-based
or academic experience consistent with Associate or Full
Professor.
- Defined experience in developing relationships, programs, and
courses with a decided emphasis on innovation that supports quality
and safety in health care.
- Experience in developing and administering budgets, strategic,
and operational plans.
- Demonstrated success in securing funding through grants,
contracts, or philanthropic endeavors.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse
faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a
faculty member at VCU.
- Registered Nurse licensure in Virginia (or eligible for
licensure in Virginia)
- National certification in quality or safety
- Active participation at national level in quality or safety
organizations
- Experience in Implementation Science, Quality and Safety
Research or Health Systems Research in traditional and
translational research
Full time equivalent: 50 - 100%
