Job Description:

At VCU, we exceed through learning, research, creativity, service and discovery — the hallmarks of the VCU experience. As a premier, urban, public research university nationally recognized as one of the best employers for diversity, VCU is a great place to work. It’s a place of opportunity, where your success is supported and your career can thrive.

Since its founding in 1937, the VCU School of Business has built strong ties with the Richmond community and beyond. Offering 13 bachelor’s and 19 master’s degrees, as well as three Ph.D. concentrations and seven certificate programs, we welcome nearly 4,000 students each year.

Forbes ranks Virginia first as the Best Place to Do Business. Richmond, as the capital of Virginia, is located in the heart of the east coast economic corridor with more than half of the U.S. population within a 750-mile radius. It is home to Fortune 1000 companies and small start-ups.

The Department of Information Systems within the VCU School of Business is hiring for a tenure-eligible assistant professor position that will support both the teaching and research mission of the department.

Responsibilities include teaching courses in information systems at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. The applicant must conduct scholarly research where the output of such research is published in high-caliber peer-reviewed journals, advise students, and provide service to the department, school, university, and academic community. Preferred areas of expertise are the following: information security, data science, and healthcare information systems. Other specialty areas related to information technology may be considered.

Applicants must have an established research agenda and should be committed to scholarly research and teaching of the highest quality. Applicants are expected to establish a nationally recognized research program. External funding of research projects is encouraged.

Required Qualifications:
-Applicants must have an earned doctorate degree in information systems or a closely related discipline. ABD candidates are expected to successfully defend their dissertation by the official start date.
-Applicants must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:
An established research agenda, clear potential for external funding, and potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the department.

Application Process: Candidates should upload their application with: a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research and teaching statements, and the names and e-mail addresses of four references. Reference letters will be requested by the search committee only for the short-listed candidates. Only complete applications that meet the required qualifications will be considered. Review of applications will start immediately, and will continue until filled. For additional information, please contact the chair of the faculty search committee, Joseph Cipolla, jcipolla@vcu.edu.
