The rate of pay for this Electrician position is based on the amount of Vacation hours the successful candidate selects at time of offer:

- 100 hours = $45.79 per hour
- 140 hours = $45.10 per hour
- 180 hours = $44.37 per hour

Job Summary:

University Housing is looking for an Electrician to be a part of our skilled trades team to help accomplish mission-critical projects while providing operational support for daily operations. This position works with the internal and contracted trades team throughout University Housing Facilities.

Responsibilities:

Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, equipment, and life safety and electrical control systems to ensure adequate, safe, and operable institutional facilities.
  • 15% Interprets blueprints and drawings and completes electrical calculations to assess and determine specifications and to calculate the materials and equipment required. Discusses project plan with customer/client
  • 10% Gathers materials, prepares work area, and maintains equipment and supplies needed for jobs
  • 50% Completes skilled electrical installations and repairs according to established trade standards and applicable building and safety codes in various work environments
  • 10% Reviews finished projects with client/customer. Maintains records and reports of work status and completion according to established deadlines and expectations
  • 5% Cleans work area upon completion of projects according to established guidelines and expectations
  • 10% Collaborates with and assists contractors as needed
Tasks:
  • Completes work in occupied or vacant University Housing spaces.
  • Coordinates, collaborates with, and oversees the work of vendors, outside contractors, and physical plant staff.
  • Creates, promotes, and participates in a collaborative team environment.
  • Drives vehicles to efficiently transport staff, move supplies, and urgently respond to emergency situations.
  • Provides support and assists as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency.
  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency electrical, fire alarm and other building life safety systems problems.
  • Utilizes and incorporates commercial constructions techniques and materials to complete University Housing projects.

Education:

Required
High School Diploma and the completion of a registered apprenticeship program approved by the Department of Workforce Development as a Electrician - Journey as defined on DWD website - https://dwd.wisconsin.gov/apprenticeship/trades/construction-electrician.htm

Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced knowledge of a variety of building science concepts
- 5+ Years of related experience
- Experience working in a university or industrial setting

License/Certification:

Required
Journeyman Electrician - WI License

Preferred
Master Electrician

Required
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

Work Schedule:

Primary schedule for this position is 7:00am - 3:30pm or 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

Schedule will be determined with finalist upon hire. Schedule alterations as operations and position expectations demand.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
