Position Summary

We are looking for an Appointments and Payroll Directorto oversee all employee transactions for the University at Buffalo. In this role, you will lead the centralized University team and approach to UB appointments for faculty, staff, and students.

As Director, your responsibilities include:
  • Maintain functional payroll systems
  • Streamline procedures
  • Audit transactions for accuracy
  • Manage payroll discrepancies quickly and efficiently
  • Ensure compliance with all contracts, policies and procedures
  • Collaborate within a decentralized HR partner environment
  • Answer payroll-related questions from employees

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education
To qualify for this position, you must have one or both of the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of the Bachelor’s degree requirement.
Experience Required
  • A minimum of five years of relevant work and leadership experience is required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of higher education role and appointment complexities.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal employment and labor relations regulations and laws (e.g. HIPAA, FMLA, ADA ).
  • The applicant must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong problem solving skills, and the ability to work effectively and efficiently within strict deadlines, as well as the demonstrated ability to monitor, analyze and use relevant data.
  • Must possess excellent independent judgment while using sensitivity to personal and confidential information.
  • Must have the ability to develop collegial working relationships with individuals at all organizational levels and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with NY State Policies, practices and regulations.
