Job Summary The Department of Philosophy at Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN) has two openings in Ethics at the Assistant Professor level. AOS: Ethics. AOC: Open, but the department has an interest in strengthening its profile in political philosophy.

 

Principal Duties: Purdue is a member of the American Association of Universities, and thus a strong research profile is expected of the successful candidate in addition to graduate mentoring.  Standard non-teaching duties. Teaching load is 4 courses/year (2/semester), undergraduate and graduate, including two courses per year in the College of Liberal Arts’ Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts first-year curriculum (SCLA 101 or SCLA 102).  This curriculum is highly flexible but emphasizes student engagement with primary texts in philosophy, literature, and history.

 

Additional departmental duties may include teaching some of the following courses in applied Ethics: Biomedical Ethics, Environmental Ethics, or Ethics and Animals.

 

Qualifications: Ph.D. in philosophy or related field required prior to appointment.

The College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University is embarking upon 45 faculty searches for positions beginning in Fall 2023.  These positions will advance research within and across disciplines, and intersect with technology, data science, and engineering in relevant and important ways.  These positions include teaching in our innovative, nationally-recognized Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts Program that educates students across the university.
