CSUSB serves approximately 20,000 students, of which 81% are first-generation college students and graduates about 5,000 students annually. JOB SUMMARY

The History Department at CSUSB invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professorship in 19th or 20th century US/Borderlands history. We prefer scholars whose research and teaching focus on borderlands history which can be US/International in the context of borders. Subfields in gender, women's history, race and ethnicity are encouraged to apply.

The position is appointed in the History Department. Candidates with demonstrated success in teaching and supporting students from historically underrepresented and marginalized populations are encouraged to apply.

CSUSB seeks applications from individuals who are committed to teaching students who are first generation college students, who have followed non-traditional pathways to college and who come from societal, economic or academic disadvantages.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

Responsibilities include teaching eight courses over two semesters, advising for undergraduate majors and graduate students.

The successful candidate will also teach one large enrollment, general education survey course of U.S. history and participate in the rotation of faculty teaching historical research and writing seminars and also develop courses in US/Borderlands history.

Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in history or related field by time of appointment.

  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Preference will be given to candidates with teaching and research experience in 19th or 20th century US Borderlands.
    • Evidence of teaching, scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued.

    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

    The Department of History is home to 13 full time faculty and nearly 450 majors. The department offers courses across all areas of the world and temporal time periods. Courses are offered in the areas of African, Asian, European, Latin American, Middle East, and United States history. Courses are often integrative and are constantly updated to reflect new areas of interest and faculty expertise. CSUSB's history department is one of the few in the country to offer an undergraduate degree in Public and Oral History.

    The History department also offers an M.A. in History, an Egyptology Certificate, and a Museum Studies Certificate. It also contributes to the B.A. Social Sciences program, the B.A. in Liberal Studies, and the M.A. in Social Sciences. We also offer key courses in the GE program. History courses also are part of the American Studies, Asian Studies, Ethnic Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies, Latin American Studies, and Native Nations programs.
