Lab Coordinator - Maker Space Support
About the Opportunity
The Maker Space Lab Support Coordinator will assist with the
day-to-day operations of the Makerspaces within the College of
Arts, Media and Design (CAMD). Assist with the installation,
instruction, maintenance, and safe use of all equipment,
technology, and machinery in a maker space setting which includes
woodworking, additive manufacturing, and CNC technology. This
position will assist in the management, coordination, and training
of a team of student staff to supervise all open hours of
facilities, and will directly supervise various weekly open hours.
Conduct Shop Safety Trainings, and orientations on foundation and
fabrication-oriented skills both in response to curricular needs as
well as in their own specialty. Coordinates with CAMD Maker Space
Manager to ensure all practices are in compliance with university
safety policies. Works with faculty, staff, and students as
necessary for effective operation of equipment, software, and
machinery for instruction, course projects, and research. Assist
with repair and/or schedule repair and maintenance of machinery. Be
available during classes for problem solving and training faculty,
staff, and students as appropriate. Provides support to departments
for special events that rely on CAMD's IT/AV infrastructure. Tracks
and updates makerspace inventory. Completes other fabrication or
instructional related projects/duties as needed. This position is
required to work outside regular working hours on an infrequent
basis as needed for maintenance, training, supervision, admissions,
Bachelors degree in Architecture, Art, Design, Engineering, or
related field required, or 3 Years-experience instructing in a
Maker Space type of environment. Experience with wood fabrication,
3-D printing, and CNC machinery is essential. The candidate must
have strong problem-solving, organization, and communication
skills; a keen eye for safety; and be able to work independently.
The ability to lift 50 lbs is a necessity.
Experience with Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD, Rhinoceros, Fusion360,
and/or similar design software a strong plus.
