Supports the strategic fundraising efforts of the Jesse H. Jones School of Business Entrepreneurship Center at Texas Southern University by designing, implementing, evaluating, and refining the unit’s fund-raising activities. Personally identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major gift donors and prospects, fosters collaborative relationships with different colleges/schools by coordinating joint solicitation efforts and aligning marketing and outreach efforts for multiple development programs and initiatives with the School of Business.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS :
Position requires: a) development, coordination and implementation of strategies targeted at high-level donor base with prospects typically exceeding $15,000; b) facilitation of collaborative relationships with various constituents to enhance the unit’s fundraising efforts; c) facilitation and/or oversight of day-to-day activities of the development office; d) direct identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift donors and prospects; e) supervision of volunteers and/or lower-level staff in the execution of development activities.

This is a Grant Funded position. Essential Duties Summary
  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major gift donors and prospects including individuals, corporations, and/or foundations, through visits and other forms of direct personal contact to conduct the strategy and mission of JHJ School of Business.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with the School of Business colleagues, and appropriate BAC board members and/or other constituents to maximize the unit’s total gift revenue, plan solicitation strategies, and leverage joint solicitation efforts.
  • Assists and/or leads in short- and long-range strategic planning activities to create and implement fund-raising goals and objectives.
  • Coordinates day-to-day unit-based development strategies and activities to ensure their integration into the JHJ’s overall development program.
  • Makes effective use of the JHJ’s and other institutional resources to ensure appropriate management of donors, prospects, alumni, and volunteers to contribute the development of entrepreneurship programs.
  • Conducts research to identify prospects, with an emphasis on major gifts exceeding $15,000, and creates strategies to match prospects’ interests to the priorities of JHJ School of Business and the University.
  • Researches, writes, edits, and/or oversees the preparation of persuasive, accurate, and grammatically and syntactically correct solicitations, proposals, case statements, reports, correspondence, and other development-related communication materials in support of JHJ’s fund-raising activities in the entrepreneurship and small business areas.
  • Plans and conducts programs and activities designed to increase the visibility of the unit and the University to internal and external constituencies.
  • May train and supervise staff and student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as
  • Prepare the reports to PNC foundation and Howard University about the development and status of the center.
  • Prepare the reports for annual Dean’s Newsletter and department/school
  • annual report about the progress and development of the entrepreneurship center.
  • Aid and suggestions to other HBCUs in the assigned geographical areas.
  • Collaborate /work with JHJ’s Executive Director of Advancement for promotion, advertisement, publications and developing brochures/web information materials related to the entrepreneurship center.
  • Collaborate/work with PNS academic/program/curriculum coordinator and PNC student club activities/events coordinator to promote the entrepreneurship center.
  • Participate in the regular meetings/events/activities related to entrepreneurship/small business.
  • Participate in the grant and proposal writing in the entrepreneurship/small business area to seek for additional funding.
  • Manage other related tasks at the request of Dean.

Bachelor’s degree or higher.

  • Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to exercise good judgment, to demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to development activities, and to use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, volunteers, and others.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships within a team environment.
Work Experience
At least 5 years of documented professional experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Working/Environmental Conditions
