Grant Writer (Remote)



Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within 6 months of hire.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Reporting to a designated administrator within the Office of Institutional Advancement, aGrant Writeris primarily responsible for researching and developing strong grant proposals to support existingandemerging project/program initiatives, as well as the capital needs for CCC.

Grant Writer positions write coherent, organized, and compelling proposals to successfully obtain funding from diverse funding sources, and work with key staff as part of a team to ensure the timely submission of grant proposals and Letters of Inquiries (LOIs) to potential funding sources. Performs related remote duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Leads and/or supports the writing and submission of complex and technical government and foundation grants, working in partnership with the Director of Grants, Grants Manager, Associate Vice Chancellor of Institutional Resource Development, and key staff across the colleges. narratives for external funding.
  • Writes competitive narratives that persuasively translate and communicate CCC’s vision, mission, and emerging project/program initiatives.
  • Ensures deadlines are met for the submission of completed proposals to funding agencies.
  • Works remotely with staff to interpret guidelines, draft narratives, and other required proposal components; gathers material and information necessary for developing a strong proposal.
  • Assists in creating and editing proposal budgets as part of the grant proposal package.
  • Serves as an expert resource on grant writing . Reviews and edits narratives as needed to ensure they are responsive to the RFP/ NOFO and the entire application package meets the rigorous standards of the funding agency.
  • Provides grant writing support remotely to college administrators, faculty, and staff and advises on techniques for honing grant writing and editing skills.
  • Collaborates and strategizes remotely as a member of a proposal team, working with college administrators across the district in the writing, editing, and document development of large-scale proposals.
  • Provides regular updates on progress and activities to key grants management staff to ensure timely and quality submissions of grant applications.
  • Participates remotely in bi-weekly team meetings.
  • Attend any funder webinars related to possible and/or current grant proposal.
  • Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
  • Performs other remote duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’ s degree from an accredited college or university in English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field
  • Five years of grant writing or professional writing experience, preferably in a non-profit environment
  • Experience working as a grant writer in an institution of higher education a plus
  • Creative individual with the skills necessary to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive grant narratives aligned with RFP/RFQ requirements
  • Exceptional writing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to study and understand programs in higher education as well as their funding requirements
  • Familiarity with key financial concepts and how to read financial documents/statements
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to handle multiple projects with high attention to detail and meet critical deadlines
  • Strong research skills and knowledge of information sources
  • Ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience
  • Proficiency working with a variety of grant management systems
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
