Job Summary

The Department of Human Resources encourages applications for the Leave Coordinator! The Central HR Leave Coordinator position sits on the leave team within the Employee Relations (ER) unit at CU Boulder. This position will coordinate and advise on federal, state and university leave benefits including the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Parental Leave, Short Term Disability, and On-the-Job Injury Leave for the University of Colorado Boulder campus. This position will be responsible for understanding the FMLA and related leave processes and communicating these processes with employees, supervisors, and campus partners in a manner that is clear and easy to understand for someone who may not be familiar with regulatory terms.

The Leave Coordinator will assist with providing campus guidance on FMLA and related leave inquiries and trainings. This position will also assist the Leave Program Manager in continuing to improve and build upon the campus-wide centralized program to maintain compliance with state and federal regulations.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Administration of the Family and Medical Leave Act, On-the-Job Injury, and Parental Leave
  • Coordinating FMLA and related leaves will include communicating with the employee during their initial request, determining eligibility, providing accurate medical certification, reviewing medical certification and clarifying/authenticating when needed, designating the leave, and managing the return-to-work process. This position will collaborate with the HRSC payroll team to ensure leaves are accurately tracked, paid, and reported in the HCM payroll system. Additionally, this position will collaborate with University Risk Management to ensure On-the-Job Injuries are appropriately designated under the FMLA and all related leave and restrictions are appropriately managed by departments. This position will guide employees through the Parental Leave application process and ensure employees clearly understand all related benefits and entitlements.
Leave Program Training
  • The Leave Coordinator will assist in educating and training campus on FMLA and other related leave regulations. Type and content of trainings will include:
    • Campus policies and procedures.
    • Individual advising for employees, supervisors, HR Liaisons.
    • FMLA/Parental Leave information sessions.
    • Department requested trainings/info sessions.
    • HR Service Center new team member trainings.
    • Department on-boarding meetings.

Leave Coordinator will learn to present these types of trainings independently and should be able to support the training if another team member is out or unable to perform. This position will also be responsible for staying up to date with FMLA regulation and university policy changes and partnering with the Leave Program Manager to educate campus on these changes.

Other Duties as Assigned
  • The Leave Coordinator should be comfortable with researching policies, practices, procedures, and case law related to FMLA and other types of leave. This position should be willing to collaborate with all University of Colorado campuses regarding leave management standard processes. Work with the ER team to address sophisticated cases that intersect with performance management or other Employee Relations topics and initiatives.

  • This position is primarily remote with some in-person work required. We can discuss this more during the interview process.
  • All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to comply with the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement.

What We Can Offer
  • Starting salary range is $44,000 - $51,000.

What We Require
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution or a combination of education and experience which preferably includes administration and case management of FMLA and related types of leave or advising on or completing payroll actions related to FMLA and related types of leave, or other relevant experience.

  • Proven verbal and written communication skills.
  • Desire to work collaboratively and continuously improve centralized program for FMLA and related leave on the Boulder campus.
  • Ability to work through nuanced processes that change based on employee populations and leave scenarios.

  • Experience with HCM and MyLeave.
  • Knowledge of On-the-Job Injury Leave and Worker’s Compensation.
  • Experience working in Higher Education.
  • Experience working with payroll processing.
