The Professional Research Experience Program (PREP) encourages applications for a Postdoctoral Associate!
The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Who We Are

PREP is a special partnership between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the University of Colorado Boulder. PREP provides research opportunities to CU undergraduate and graduate students, as well as researchers with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in NIST labs to gain research experience alongside NIST scientists.

The particular group that needs a researcher is the Neutron-Condensed Matter Science Group under the NIST Center for Neutron Research at NIST.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Postdoc will develop an AI agent to guide experiments on the nSoft Autonomous Formulation Laboratory performing complementary experiments such as x-ray and neutron scattering to explore model formulations provided by industrial partners. The agent will balance a variety of factors to deliver stability predictions with high accuracy and a minimum number of measurements.
  • Postdoc will integrate other measurements and simulation modalities into the agent. The results of this work will be disseminated via publications and presentations.
    • Develop hardware and software for integration of multiple measurement modalities on the sample.
    • Design and perform studies using multimodal analysis to develop understanding of stability and synthetic pathways in complex materials, especially industrial materials.
  • Postdoc will have opportunities to participate in developing and presenting strategic plans in collaboration with the nSoft team and broader NIST AI/ML community.
    • Communicate results via refereed publications and presentations at conferences, to external partners, and internally.
