As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks a Student Finance Specialist. The Student Finance Specialist is a full-time position providing specialized counseling related to all aspects of a student’s life cycle including financial aid packages, athletics and other scholarship awards, student loans, student bills, etc. This position works primarily with students and their parents. The key responsibilities of this position include direct financial aid counseling to admitted students in the spring, account and billing follow up with students during the summer, and fall, and athletic package coordination and liaison with coaches in the fall. This person also works with finance and cash and so will need to be bonded. The timing of these various roles is primarily driven by the calendar cycle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan intellectual traditions in courses, programs, and services.
  • Adheres to Marian University’s policy and procedures
  • Shows courtesy and respect in interactions with fellow employees, students subordinates, and supervisors
  • Communicates regularly with supervisor about department issues
  • Meets department productivity standards
  • Participates in developing department goals, objective, and systems
  • Assists to establish department measurements that align and support the accomplishment of the University’s strategic goals
  • Adheres to the department budget
  • Explanation, clarification, and negotiation of financial aid packages with admitted students and their families.
  • Basic loan advisement related to education, forgiveness, etc…
  • Ensuring that deposited students are Knight Ready through the Knight Quest program
  • Assist students in finalizing student loans in order to pay their bills
  • Standardize and manage all financial aid early estimates for athletes
  • Liaise with athletic department and coaches on handling of early estimates for athletes
  • Liaise with staff in CASE (Center for Access and Student Success) to ensure timely registration
  • Coordinate verbal estimates with the coaches for consistency and accuracy
  • Proactively follow up with athletes and their families in converting early estimates to official financial aid packages after admission.
  • Follow up with students on the aspects of Knight Quest that have not been completed as agreed upon
  • Proactively manage students on payment plans that miss payments

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from prospective students, parents, high school counselors, and members of the campus or business community.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply commons sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must have and be able to maintain a valid Indiana Driver’s License without restrictions.
  • Must have strong computer skills, excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
