Position Announcement

The Digital Film Program at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, invites applications for two full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor positions, beginning Fall Semester 2023.?The preferred candidates will possess MFA degrees in Digital Film Production (or related field), teaching experience in film production, and an emphasis in one or more of the following areas: Producing, Directing, Cinematography, Documentary, Screenwriting, Sound, Editing, Art Design, or VFX/Unreal Engine.

Our unique hands-on program seeks faculty who are active in the field, utilize applied learning activities in the classroom, and are interested in collaborating with students on professional work. Our professional production company, which runs in tandem with the academic program, enables students and faculty to produce various video projects for professional clients. Students and faculty also engage with professional filmmakers from around the world through DOCUTAH, UT’s internationally-renowned documentary film festival. Responsibilities
  • Teach digital film production and post-production courses (or related courses).
  • Advise students on advanced student film projects and mentor student projects to completion.
  • Work with students on professional film productions and commercial projects, as assigned by Program Director.
  • Develop course content, outcomes, and evaluation systems for course offerings; provide assessment of course offerings in consultation with other digital film faculty and staff.
  • Actively promote the Digital Film program and recruit new students.
  • Perform defined campus-wide duties, including holding office hours, attendance at department and division meetings, and adherence to college, division, and university policies and procedures.
  • Carry out special assignments regarding assessment, committee work, student film screenings, etc., assigned by Program Director or Department Chair.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or Program Director.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • An MFA in a related discipline required; area of film specialization is open.
  • Focus, interest, and expertise in teaching at an institution of higher learning required.
  • Professional film production experience at the national/international level.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with students, staff, and colleagues, both orally and in writing.
  • Highly knowledgeable and current with emerging production & post-production tools.
  • Maintains an active production portfolio.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Desire to work in a small department where all faculty are involved in teaching, all film production aspects, and institutional/community service.
  • Professional film experience in narrative production, documentaries or commercial projects at the regional/national level.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (nine-month) tenure-track faculty positions. Faculty service begins August 2023, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2023. Annual salary of $57,000 - $60,000 depending on qualifications & experience. Additional compensation may be available for summer/overload teaching and creative contract work with Utah Tech Creative Studios.
