Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School seeks a dynamic, entrepreneurial Christian leader and scholar to serve as the next Billy Graham Chair in Evangelism and Cultural Engagement. This is a tenure track, full-time faculty, 9-month appointment, to begin in August 2023.

In 1989, Dr. Billy Graham gave permission to Beeson Divinity School to establish a chair in his honor, recognizing his lifelong commitment to the ministry of evangelism. The Billy Graham Chair in Evangelism and Cultural Engagement was established at that time, fulfilling the wishes of the school’s benefactor, Ralph Waldo Beeson, that missions and evangelism be given a high priority in the school’s mission and curriculum. Those who have occupied the Graham Chair in the interceding years have faithfully equipped ministers to win lost persons to Jesus Christ and to develop dynamic churches that glorify God. The school is looking to the next occupant of the Graham Chair to take its programming in the area of Christian witness and cultural engagement to the next level.

This faculty member will teach a full load of graduate-level courses annually (typically 12 credit hours), as assigned by the Dean or Associate Dean. Additionally, he or she will participate fully in the community life activities of Beeson Divinity School, including but not limited to weekly services of corporate worship and faculty-led mentor groups, engage productively in research and scholarship to contribute to scholarly and professional discussions in the discipline, and serve collaboratively with other members of the Beeson faculty and staff to advance the mission of the School and Samford University.

Consideration will be given to applicants who are devoted followers of Jesus Christ, active in worship and service in a local church, who agree with Beeson Divinity School’s statement of faith (see Samford Faculty Handbook, Section A5.1) and support the school’s evangelical and interdenominational ethos, and who hold a research doctoral degree in a theological discipline from an accredited institution. The successful candidate will be recognized widely for contributions to the Church’s faithfulness and effectiveness in gospel witness, both in scholarly publications and in ministry leadership roles. He or she will have the proven ability to think biblically/theologically and strategically about Christian mission in today’s world, to teach, encourage, and equip others well; and to lead Beeson Divinity School’s efforts to serve the worldwide body of Christ for the sake of evangelism and cultural engagement.

Beeson Divinity School (beesondivinity.com) was established in 1988 through the generosity of Ralph Waldo Beeson. The mission of the school is to prepare God-called persons to serve as ministers in the church of Jesus Christ by providing quality theological education in a community that worships the triune God and cultivates authentic Christian spirituality. Beeson offers the Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Theological Studies. All degrees are accredited by the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools in the U.S. and Canada (COA/ATS). Beeson is one of ten schools that comprise Samford University.
