Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is to provide the highest quality clinical care in both general and specialty Obstetrics and Gynecology to the women of central Virginia. In addition to the clinical mission, the department has the allied goals of providing undergraduate and graduate medical education in the field and advancing the field through basic and clinical research.

Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology is recruiting for a collateral, non-tenure track faculty position in the area of general obstetrics and gynecology. The faculty member will primarily perform clinical activities in general OB/GYN. The position will also include in and outpatient consultation and performance of therapeutic procedures. The faculty member will also support the department with teaching responsibilities with both residents and students.

Position Responsibilities: Responsibilities:

Teaching
The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities to include actively participating in the department’s educational activities, with particular attention to educating students and residents in their core educational objectives in general obstetrics and gynecology.

Research
Faculty member will initiate clinical research projects in the area of general obstetrics and gynecology. They are expected to participate in and facilitate other collaborative department research. In addition, they will mentor both undergraduate and graduate students in their research activities. The faculty member is encouraged to secure research funding to support these activities.

Service
Faculty member will serve on departmental, Medical School, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g., reviewer, conference organizer, etc.

Clinical
The generalist faculty member will see patients in the clinics, private office and health department settings and have the ability to perform diagnostic procedures and deliver appropriate obstetrical and gynecologic care. The faculty member will also participate in the general ob/gyn activities of the department and be expected to participate in nighttime call duties as appropriate.

Other
The faculty member will participate in department and institutional administrative activities as assigned by the division chief and chair.


Required Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
  • Completion of training in OB/GYN residency training program.
  • Virginia medical license.
  • Completion of ABOG Board requirements per ABOG guidelines.
  • Potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of an ACGME accredited OB/GYN residency.
