Position Summary
The Director of International Student Life reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and serves as the departmental leader responsible for supervising the ISL staff, developing the vision for programs and services established by the office, and managing all fiscal, human capital and other resources. The Director oversees and facilitates the development, advising, implementation and evaluation of a variety of cross-cultural and international programs that ensure developmental and academic growth, promote the success and retention of UGA’s undergraduate and graduate international/multinational student population, and educate the larger campus and community.

Completion of a master’s degree in higher education, student affairs administration, counseling, adult education, or related field of study.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
- Doctoral degree in higher education, college student affairs administration, counseling, adult education, international education (or related field of study).
- Proven expertise in student life, international education, and/or in a related field with a successful track record in strategic program development, supervision, budgets, program management, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Proven history of managing a dynamic portfolio of programs and services and demonstrated leadership coordinating university-wide programs and events.
- Minimum of three years of experience in supervision, budget management, student advising and program development.
- Considerable knowledge regarding the concerns and issues of international students including knowledge and understanding of multiple identities.
- Extensive background in diversity, equity, and inclusion, international education, and service-oriented initiatives.
- Strong organizational and fiscal management skills as well as excellent written and oral communication.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team, with individuals as well as with groups with various identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal and creative problem-solving skills as well as a positive, collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues.

Leadership and Programming (25%)
Provide strategic vision, leadership, and support for robust initiatives to empower and support campus-wide international student support efforts and resources. Ensure the development, implementation, and evaluation of major department-lead programming such as International Student Orientation, International Coffee Hour, International Education Month, ECHD 4000 Course, Global Dawgs, International Student Advisory Board, International Street Festival, and other campus-wide programs and services for the continual development of an international student community that encourages interaction and cooperation among all international and U.S. students. Provide leadership, support, and oversight for supervised staff who work with international student organizations, World Leaders, International Coffee Hour, Global Buddies, and all other department-led programming. Coordinate the development and distribution of various publications to keep international students and others aware of programs/issues related to diversity, internationalization, and intercultural competency development on campus.

Directly supervise, train, and evaluate two Senior Program Coordinators, one Business Services Coordinator, one Graduate Assistant and provide indirect supervision and support of two undergraduate student communications interns, five undergraduate student office assistants, and any other undergraduate or graduate student interns.

Finances and Budgets 20%:
Responsible for all aspects of fiscal management and solvency of the department. Develop and manage programming budgets and provide oversight to approximately 15 student organizations’ budgets advised by ISL staff. Provide oversight for organizational budgets, department foundation and revenue accounts, and student activity fee allocation. Review expenditures for compliance with university policies and procedures and/or activity fee guidelines. Ensure supervisees and students follow all University policies and procedures regarding the use of funds. Lead and seek alternative funding sources for ISL programs and services, including development and stewardship efforts of the department. Work with Student Affairs Director of Development to identify and enhance relationships with donors and alumni.

Provide counsel to students, as necessary, regarding a variety of personal, developmental, and academic concerns, making referrals to appropriate campus services. Serve as a resource to faculty, staff and students working with international student programs/services.

Set the vision and work to fulfill the goals of the department and ensure work aligns with the Division of Student Affairs and the University strategic plans. Establish and implement learning outcomes and key performance indicators for all departmental initiatives and services.

Leadership and Other Duties: (5%)
Serve as an active and contributing member on the Student Affairs Leadership Team and assists with division-wide initiatives and goals. Represent ISL to various campus departments, including the Office of Global Engagement, New Student Orientation, and the Department of Engagement, Leadership and Service, to facilitate opportunities for collaboration. Participate fully in division-wide leadership and professional development initiatives and actively engage in service to the University community through participating in various committees. Other duties as assigned.
