Job Summary/Purpose:

The Part-time Instructor provides instruction in Welding. Instruction is for students in certificate and Associate of Applied Science degree programs. The position involves teaching, selecting and conducting laboratory learning experiences appropriate for meeting objectives, and evaluating student performance in the classroom and self-paced laboratory.

• This is a part-time (< .50 FTE ) non-benefited position, hired on a term-by-term basis. Hours of work may include evening or weekend teaching assignments.
• Part-Time Instructor compensation begins at Step 1 / $628 per load unit (LU). A Load Unit may be equal to or greater than a class credit; and shall include both teaching and other assignments.
• Part-Time Faculty positions are not represented by the Faculty Forum Collective Bargaining Agreement.
• May include travel throughout the College district.
• Official transcripts are required upon hire. Applicants anticipating Degree completion must supply a letter from his/her university stating the degree title and that the degree will be granted by that date.
• COCC employees must work and reside in the state of Oregon at the time their work is being performed.
• The College is NOT able to support Visa applications for this position. Applicants must already be eligible to work in the United States to be considered for this position.

• Effective Monday, April 18, 2022, COCC implemented a COVID -19 vaccination requirement for all employees, including benefited employees, part-time faculty, and temporary workers such as irregular wage, work study and community education. Upon hire, new employees will receive an email with instructions outlining how to upload proof of full COVID -19 vaccination or request a medical or religious exception.

Essential Functions:
  1. Provide instruction in Welding courses in classroom, remote, or online delivery mode using established course outcomes. This includes lecturing, directing and supervising student laboratory practices, and providing individual conference time to guide and evaluate student progress. Classroom teaching may require 4-8 load units (8 to 16 contact hours per week) per term in the self-paced environment.
  2. Teaching assignments may include courses taught during the day and/or evening classes taught at the Redmond Campus.
  3. Includes shared responsibility for curriculum development and participation in evaluation for courses and the program.
  4. Cooperate with other College personnel to assist students with career planning, job placement, and follow-up studies.
  5. Act as a resource person for students.
  6. Cooperate with the Business Department efforts to revise and standardize curricula for these classes.
  7. Attend regular trainings as scheduled by the department or College.
  8. Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to each location, as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.
  1. Thorough knowledge of field of Manufacturing Technology, specifically welding, based on education and/or experience in the field.
  2. Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics.
  3. Visual ability, corrected, to enable instructor to observe, direct, and supervise students in classroom situations.
  4. Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers, video chat technology (e.g. Zoom) and familiarity with or willingness to learn the learning management system ( LMS ) used at COCC .
  5. Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.
  7. Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
  8. Ability to work with other faculty and COCC staff at all levels.
  9. Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations, as required.
  10. Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.
  11. Ability to work in classroom and office environments using computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Associates’ degree and/or 5 years work experience in welding, or a closely related discipline.
  2. One year of secondary or college-level teaching or advising.
  3. Evidence of excellence, or promise of excellence, in instruction.
  4. Computer Literacy: Training in, or experience with, email, internet, word processing, and presentation applications.
