Position Summary: Assistant Professor of Saxophone

Essential Functions: The University of Nebraska at Omaha seeks a dynamic performer and educator to teach applied classical saxophone, applied jazz saxophone, and courses in music theory including commercial music theory at the rank of Assistant Professor. Anticipated start date is August 14, 2023. The recruitment, retention, and mentorship of saxophone students will be an important part of the successful candidate’s role.

Additional Duties: Support all saxophone-related aspects of our diverse, vibrant School of Music including bands, jazz activities, music education, orchestras, chamber music, and music technology.  Work with faculty and students in a collaborative environment. Develop and maintain a strong record of research and creative activity through professional performances, publications, and/or conference presentations at the state, national and international levels. Perform service to the department, including School of Music outreach and recruitment events. Additional teaching duties may include teaching jazz improvisation, chamber music, jazz combo, woodwind literature/pedagogy, and/or other courses based on the candidate’s strengths and/or needs of the School of Music.

Required Qualifications:  Master’s degree and experience teaching classical and jazz saxophone. Professional experience performing in both jazz and classical genres.

Preferred Qualifications: Doctoral degree and experience teaching music theory.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The School of Music, one of three schools within the College of Communication, Fine Arts, and Media, is located in its own performing arts complex. The School just completed an expansion and renovation in February 2019 which includes a brand-new recital hall and state of the art recording studio. Phase II of the expansion is currently underway with the addition of two new classrooms.
