The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Houston (UH) invites applications for a non-tenure track promotion eligilbe faculty position at the Research Assistant Professor level. High-caliber candidates are sought for conducting original research in applied superconductivity using thin film high temperature superconductor (HTS) tapes. A key responsibility of this position is to develop innovative magnet and other applications using high-performance HTS tapes being developed in the group of Prof. Venkat Selvamanickam. Additional responsibilities include developing new electromagnetic test techniques as well as investigation of important issues such as AC losses, quench protection and mechanical robustness so as to support the development of improved superconductor tapes.

Qualifications :

Ph.D. in Engineering or Physics with specialization in Applied Superconductivity, 5+ years of relevant work experience and a strong publication record in this field.

Preferred Qualifications:
Hands-on experimental and computer modeling experience in superconducting magnet applications, electromagnetic testing of HTS tapes as well as expertise in applied superconductivity topics. Experience in designing, building and commissioning of experimental tools for magnet construction and testing of superconductor tapes in cryogenic and high magnetic fields. Accordingly, the candidate would have a strong working experience in electronics, software programming, CAD software and mechanical construction.
