PRIMARY PURPOSE:
We are seeking a Staff Mental Health Counselor/Psychologist to join our team for an ongoing full time, ten month position (August through May annually). The Mental Health Counselor/Psychologist provides culturally responsive mental health assessment, counseling and consultation services to undergraduate, law, and graduate students, in support of student success. The mental health counselor/psychologist will have the skills and experience in therapy, consultation and outreach to provide culturally responsive care to support the health and academic success of our students.
Additionally, this position requires strong generalist clinical skills to assess and intervene with a wide range of presenting student concerns within a time-limited treatment model. The mental health counselor/staff psychologist conducts initial assessments, group and individual counseling, crisis intervention, risk assessment, consultation and referrals. The mental health counselor/psychologist will participate in the training and/or clinical supervision of practicum students or interns. If the Director and Training Director are both unavailable, there may be occasional after-hours mental health consultation on-call to support on site colleagues (e.g. campus living, campus safety). Service provision includes face-to-face and tele-mental health services to students regarding problems relating to stress, developmental issues, career, academics, interpersonal concerns, trauma and other mental health concerns.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide personal counseling services via time-limited
individual, group and couples therapy modalities. This includes
crisis intervention, psycho-therapeutic, situational, relational,
academic and developmental counseling.
- Collaborate with Student Life staff, faculty, and
administrators to provide support for historically underserved
student populations including Black/African American,
Indigenous/Native American, Latinx, Asian American/Pacific
Islander, Multi-racial and other students of color, first
generation students, international students, and/or LGBTQIA+
students.
- Provide therapeutic assessment and diagnostic services related
to developing effective treatment plans and making appropriate
referrals of student clients; serve as an advocate and as a liaison
in the referral of students to on- and off-campus resources.
- Provide consultation services for students, faculty, parents
and staff related to psychological issues. For example, responds to
calls from faculty, staff, students and parents who are concerned
about students-at-risk or students failing academically.
- Maintain appropriate and timely documentation (e.g. clinical
notes) for all services, using the Counseling Service electronic
health records system.
- Attend weekly staff meetings; participate in regular
supervision or consultation regarding cases; maintain knowledge of
ethical and legal standards of care; provide all services in
keeping with these standards. Obtain relevant continuing education
to maintain license and develop professional skills.
- May conduct and collaborate on psycho-educational workshops and
preventive outreach for students, faculty and staff, particularly
focused on the mental health needs of historically underrepresented
student groups.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree or higher in social work, counseling,
psychology or closely related field.
- Current license as a social worker, psychologist, professional
counselor, or marriage & family therapist in Oregon prior to
first day of employment.
- Minimum two years experience providing clinical services in
mental health settings (may include internship or residency).
- Demonstrated experience providing culturally-informed clinical
services to diverse and traditionally underserved student groups
(e.g. BIPOC/Multicultural, LGBTQIA+, international students, first
generation students).
- Interest in engaging fully in the typical work of a college
counseling center, including short-term counseling, group
counseling, crisis work, outreach, consultation, and
training.
- Clinician with demonstrated clinical specialization in one or
more of the following: Latinx counselor (bilingual/bicultural
preferred); Neurodiversity Advocate/Specialist (e.g. ASD, ADHD,
OCD, learning differences, Tourette’s); Eating Disorder Specialist;
LGBTQ+ specialist; Access counselor (intake, crisis, referral
specialist).
- Evidence of sustained pursuit of knowledge and experience
working with culturally diverse populations.
- Experience providing clinical services in a college mental
health setting.
- Experience and interest in providing group counseling,
including both process oriented and skill building groups.
- Anticipated Hiring Range: $55,000-60,000
- Note: The hiring level will be commensurate with the
qualifications and experience of the candidate related to this
position. This is a 10-month position and the salary is paid
monthly over a 12-month period.
