General Summary:

Provides advising on academic requirements for graduate and post-baccalaureate students seeking admissions to health professional programs, preparing for counseling licensure, or for career opportunities in the healthcare/public health sectors within the guidelines of federal, state and local laws and college, division and office policies and procedures. Reports to the senior director of graduate studies and works with the director of health advising and partnerships as well as faculty, staff and students.

Essential Job Functions:

ADVISING
1. Ensures students are knowledgeable of the application requirements, process, and admissions cycle for medical
schools or health professions programs.
2. Provides consulting on primary and secondary application materials, including writing personal statements and the
work and activities section, customizing essay responses, and preparing for situational judgment tests.
3. Provides coaching on mock interviews, including multiple mini interview questions.
PROGRAMMING
1. Facilities sessions, workshops, and other professional development activities for current students applying to a linkage
agreement or through the regular application cycle.
2. Develops a process for connecting individual students with previous alumni cohorts to provide second reads of
personal statements, schools essay prompts, mock interviews, etc.
3. Develops a referral process to campus resources that assist individual students in their writing and interview skills.
4. Supports new student orientation and other programs at the request of the Senior Director of Graduate Studies.
5. Occasional evening and weekend availability is required to support events.
ADMINISTRATIVE
1. Maintains accurate records in the designated systems in compliance with FERPA and other campus, federal and state
regulations.
2. Collaborates with constituencies, including medical school and health professions partners, to maintain updated
information, notifications, etc. on application requirements
3. Oversees various administrative functions related to student success in the admissions cycle, such as the committee
letter/packet process.

Education: Master's Degree required.

Experience: At least 2-3 years experience in advising, admissions, or a related field. Experience working with medical
school or allied health student populations preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of student development theories and familiarity with current advising trends/best practices.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and customer service skills, with the ability to interact in a positive, helpful manner.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a diverse multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and others from a variety of different backgrounds, experiences, personalities and abilities.
  • Demonstrated excellence in planning and organizing work and student records to meet deadlines.
  • Possess excellent time-management skills to successfully and simultaneously complete multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrable proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google electronic mail and knowledge of Starfish and Colleague or similar student database software preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision, maintain confidentiality and abide by the Agnes Scott Honor Code.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, and occasional moving of light objects. Work is performed in an office.
