Job Description:

The Department of Psychology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position (#F0298) in Psychology to begin August 2023.

Professional responsibilities include teaching 12 credit hours per semester of undergraduate courses, including courses in the psychology major's core methods and statistics sequence, and courses in biopsychology and behavioral neuroscience. Specialization is open, with preference to those who complement our existing faculty, and can contribute to the Neuroscience Studies Minor by teaching courses such as Psychobiology of Stress, and Hormones and Behavior. Additional teaching opportunities may include special topics courses in the faculty member's area of expertise, and courses in Longwood's Civitae Core Curriculum.

In addition to the primary responsibility of innovative undergraduate teaching, faculty are also expected to advise students in the psychology major, develop a research program involving undergraduates, and participate in service at the department and University level. A brand-new lab space with attached small animal vivarium is available to support the candidate's program of research. To support the mentorship of undergraduate research, faculty have the opportunity to incorporate student research supervision into their teaching load, and the University offers several competitive, funded research programs during the summer and academic year.

Requirements:

ABD or Ph.D. in Psychology, or a closely related field (with at least 18 graduate hours in psychology). ABD candidates must have an expected completion date by August 2023 for preferred consideration. Candidates with demonstrated college teaching ability preferred.  A demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of the university mission is required.
