The Carey Business School Development and Alumni Relations team seeks to engage, steward and recognize Johns Hopkins donors, alumni, and volunteers according to their interests, through meaningful activities that encourage and recognize their long-term support of the school and the positive impact of their involvement and philanthropy. Developing and maintaining a community of engaged donors and leadership volunteers is vital to the school and the success of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR).

Reporting to the Director of Development, this role will plan, oversee and implement a creative donor experience model, with a particular focus on stewarding the pipeline of annual giving donors and continuing engagement of major gift donors ($100,000+). Building on knowledge of the school’s priorities and donors’ wishes, this position will also help develop new proposals for donor consideration. This position requires collaboration and coordination with teams across Carey Business School and centrally-based university DAR teams in order to support both engagement and fundraising goals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Donor Stewardship (35%)

  • Curate and implement reports and experiences to steward donors’ past commitments and cultivate future commitments along a continuum, based on giving level, type and donor engagement metrics, such as the Business Leadership Society, first time giving programs, etc.
  • Ensure that stewardship and donor engagement efforts align with overall campaign and solicitation communications strategy and messaging.
  • Manage engagement opportunities and key milestone celebrations for major institutional donors.
  • Support activities related to engagement efforts with existing donor stewardship programs such as the Legacy Society, the Founders Wall, and the entrepreneurial Founders Pledge.
  • As necessary, manage the school’s connection to dormant donors in mandatory stewardship.
  • Support the awards process for students awards funded through philanthropy.

Communications (20%)

  • In partnership with gift officers, assist with the development of new proposals for donors based on the philanthropic priorities of Carey Business School and donors’ known interests.
  • Develop copy for stewardship and solicitation mailings to donors.
  • Write and manage distribution for acknowledgment letters from the Carey Dean to donors.
  • Maintain the acknowledgments grid (assurance that the right people from the weekly gift/pledge report are being thanked).
  • Work with Central to compose acknowledgment letters from JHU President Daniels for appropriate gifts.
  • Develop timeline for assembling and sending stewardship reports to donors.

Reporting (30%)

  • Oversee stewardship tracking and reporting in the current ALADIN and Relationship Management System, and through the migration to JHAS.
  • Ensure some 75+ endowed funds comply with and follow donor intent, and provide Carey Business School colleagues with endowment performance data for financial donor reports.
  • In conjunction with the Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations and several departments across Carey, produce the quarterly W. P. Carey Foundation stewardship report

Partnering (15%)

  • Partner with Carey Alumni Relations team to ensure volunteer engagements are well stewarded and all stewardship reporting includes contributions of time and expertise.
  • Liaise with Carey Teaching & Learning to create “class” for recipients of endowed scholarships.
  • Liaise with Carey Admissions and Financial Aid to make them aware of the scholarship names and amounts to be awarded each year; guide the process for getting recipient names; and ultimately the personalized student information to share with donors in stewardship reports.
  • Liaise with Central DAR and JHU Finance to acquire financial information, also to share with donors in stewardship reports.
  • Attend Central’s DRLG meetings.
