Senior Associate Director, Donor Stewardship

About the Opportunity

The Senior Associate Director, Donor Stewardship is responsible for overall writing operations to create project summaries, impact reports, acknowledgements, engagement communications, and other written collateral in addition to managing Donor Relations writing staff.

This position will serve as both the editor and principal stewardship writer for Senior Vice President (SVP) office writing, offering support for projects and opportunities involving individual donors, campaign-related materials, stewardship reports, and recommendations for general stewardship/engagement opportunities and projects.

The Senior Associate Director will manage cross-team collaboration efforts and projects, ensuring that deliverables are met through project management tools. They will perform analyses of stewardship, including writing data and metrics to measure effectiveness and inform strategic planning.

The Senior Associate Director, Donor Stewardship will manage an Acknowledgement Writer and manage the workflow and requests of all acknowledgement writing needs for Advancement.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 7+ years progressively responsible experience in advancement/development office, preferably in higher education.
  • Prior supervisory experience needed.
  • Experience in writing for development/fundraising, communications, media relations or related field.
  • Experience with relational databases, preferably Salesforce.
  • A collaborative self-starter who is an active listener and confident decision maker.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization, requiring flexibility and adaptability to changing organizational priorities.
  • Ability to enforce policies/processes while remaining flexible to the growing organization's needs.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, along with a demonstrated aptitude to think critically, oversee projects and balance concurrent priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Development Writing
  • Prepare correspondence from Senior Vice President and President.
  • In collaboration with Donor Relations staff, prepare stewardship reports and materials to enable donor to understand and appreciate their support or in an effort to engage prospects for the SVP office.
  • Draft and send personalized acknowledgement letter to donors within SVP portfolio/pipeline
  • Act as primary contact for SVP office for acknowledgement/stewardship writing needs/requests
  • Manage workflow and request of all acknowledgements writing needs for Advancement
  • Develop and recommend improved engagement (touch points) for donors/prospects in SVP portfolio


Portfolio & Systems Management
  • Manage cross-team collaboration efforts/projects. Ensure all deliverables are being met through project management tools (i.e., workplans).
  • Administer and manage writing data team strategy, carry out benchmarking to improve upon and measure the unit's success.
  • Communicate project timelines and workflow with writing team and to stakeholders in University Advancement
  • Perform analysis of stewardship, including writing data and metrics to measure effectiveness and inform strategic planning.


Leadership
  • Manage acknowledgement writing team staff
  • Provide backup support on acknowledgements and other donor communications as needed
  • Lead and contribute to debrief conversations with an eye towards continuous improvement
  • Mentor staff.
  • Participate in industry and professional learning opportunities
