Position Summary:
JOB SUMMARY:
The Prospect Analyst is responsible for researching and analyzing prospects for major gift cultivation and solicitation, data management for relationship management, coordinating the prospect intelligence program, and participating in the identification of prospects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Prospect Research, Analysis and Writing (60%)
  • ∙ Adhere to the ethical guidelines of the profession as outlined by Apra International.
  • ∙ Research/Analysis/Evaluation: Conduct research on individuals, corporations, and foundations using a wide variety of biographical, organizational and financial sources, including state-of-the-art online database services, internet websites, library and government sources and other external repositories of public information.
  • ∙ Analyze and synthesize accumulated information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity and linkages to campus. Evaluate research results in partnership with the Director of Prospect Research to develop and implement further research strategies utilizing ethical intelligence-gathering techniques of the research profession.
  • ∙ Research/identify potential volunteers for leadership positions, stewardship events, President's events, Alumni Association Boards, Willamette University Board, and campaign committees.
  • ∙ Writing: Compose documents (briefings & event briefings, ad hoc analysis) using style, grammar and content appropriate to specific audiences. With assistance from the Director of Prospect Development, interpret and translate complex financial, legal and corporate language into easily comprehensible terms while adhering to University standards of discretion and confidentiality. Extract and communicate key information which directs cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • ∙ Provide management for the day-to-day operations of outsourced/contract prospect research as needed.


Major Gift Prospect Identification (15%)
  • ∙ In partnership with the Director of Prospect Development, plan and execute strategies to identify sources of major gifts ($100,000+) using creative research techniques and electronic searching methodologies. ∙ Develop and execute strategies to ensure that newly identified prospects are referred to appropriate fundraisers in a timely manner.


Data Management including Portfolio & Prospect Management Meeting Support (20%)
  • ∙ Serve as a support member of various committees and liaison to a portfolio of development directors in order to record strategy decisions and code donors and prospects correctly. Staff meetings and interpret results as needed.
  • ∙ Efficiently monitor a core group of principal gift prospects and maintain an active awareness of the important news and events involving them, transferring all ethically-sourced knowledge to the database. ∙ Build, maintain & expand prospect knowledge, including ratings, interests and linkages acquired through research in a complex database system that is accessible to campus wide fundraising staff and used to develop future cultivation strategies.
  • ∙ In partnership with the ASO team, support the development of appropriate data structures, reports and analysis for a high-functioning advancement team.


Other Duties (5%)
  • ∙ Work in a team environment with the Director of Prospect Development, the Executive Director of Advancement Strategy & Operations, the Associate Director of Data Acquisition, Integrity & Metrics, and the Advancement Strategy & Operations staff. Train student assistants as necessary.
  • ∙ Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • ∙ Excellent written communication skills, including business/technical writing for clarity and brevity, often on short notice.
  • ∙ Strong task management skills and problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to work in a demanding environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information.
  • ∙ Familiarity with CRM (constituent relationship management) databases.
  • ∙ Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize work, and independently manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • ∙ Build and maintain a strong network of professional contacts in prospect development. ∙ Proficiency with Google Workspace and the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new software. ∙ Knowledge of ethics statements by Apra, Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and other related associations.
  • ∙ Within 12 months of hire, ability to meet or exceed all Level 1 standards for the prospect research domain, most Level 1 standards for the relationship management domain, and most Level 1 standards for the data science domain in the Apra Body of Knowledge.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • ∙ Demonstrated experience as a prospect research analyst or a closely related role such as journalism, library science, business intelligence, or business analyst.
  • ∙ Experience in higher education fundraising
  • ∙ Experience with Raiser's Edge / NXT
  • ∙ Experience with Smartsheet
  • ∙ Demonstrated analytical skills to perform complex analyses and organize information to identify philanthropic patterns, tendencies, and relationships among individuals, corporations and foundations.∙ General fundraising skills, including proficiency at supporting and participating in prospect management and tracking processes and staying informed of trends in the field.
  • ∙ Commitment to adopting best practices and operational efficiency.


TYPICAL WORK SCHEDULE:

Business hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Typical work schedule is flexible once a pattern of performance is established.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

Typical work is performed indoors in a normal work environment.

Salary: $52,823
