Job Description Summary

Position: Assistant/Associate Professor, tenure track, nine-month appointment.

Start Date: Negotiable starting in Spring or Fall 2023; but Spring start is preferred.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in
    • two or more of: social media marketing, digital retailing, retail/merchandising analytics, and retail/merchandising technology; and
    • one or more of: consumer decision making, consumer theories, retail management, visual merchandising, merchandising/buying, fashion forecasting, global retailing, global sourcing, and entrepreneurship.
  • Actively pursue a program of scholarly research and grantsmanship.
  • Participate in curriculum development and marketing for undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Direct and serve on graduate student committees.
  • Participate in undergraduate student advising.
  • Provide service to the department, college, and university.
  • Be actively involved in relevant professional associations and with industry entities.
Academic Programs: The Department of Consumer and Design Sciences has 20 faculty positions (16 full-time, tenured/tenure track and 4 lecturers), 574 undergraduate students, and 30 graduate students. The Department offers Bachelor of Science programs in Apparel Merchandising, Design and Production Management ( AMDP ) with two options (Apparel Merchandising and Apparel Design and Production Management); Interior Design; and Philanthropy and Non-Profit Studies. The graduate programs include a Master of Science degree (thesis and non-thesis) and Ph.D. in Consumer and Design Sciences. Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in apparel merchandising or related field required at the time employment begins. Will consider candidates who are ABD, with appointment at the instructor level until completion of the doctoral degree within one semester of initial hire date.
  • Must be fluent in English and possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
Desired Qualifications

Desired: Professional experience in the retail or apparel industry; teaching experience; grantsmanship experience; experience with big data and other business analytics applications; teaching/research experience incorporating AI (artificial intelligence) or other retail/merchandising/marketing technology.
