Mixed Reality Simulation Specialist



Job Summary: The Mixed Reality (MR) Simulation Specialist will support the development and lead the implementation and delivery of simulation and modeling technology within the Burnett School of Medicine at TCU. The MR Simulation Specialist serves as technical lead for experiential learning activities that incorporate simulation and modeling modalities such as, but not limited to, virtual reality, augmented reality, hybrid simulators, computerized models, manikins, and part task trainers. The MR Simulation Specialist serves as the technical support to learners, faculty and staff prior to, during, and after learning activities. The MR Simulation Specialist will report to the Manager of Simulation Operations and has specific responsibilities for logistical planning, testing, set-up, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all simulation assets, particularly software and peripherals, but also hardware and other related equipment. The MR Simulation Specialist will construct, implement and deliver education and training to faculty and staff for respective simulation modalities and will support faculty, staff, and learners during learning activities, including asynchronous activities. Duties & Essential Job Functions:
  1. Leads the technical implementation of simulation modeling systems through supporting the content and/or curricula lead (such as course director, module director, etc.) within the learning activity.
  2. Drives advances in immersive technology, mixed reality, data visualization, etc., aligned with curriculum and simultaneously research.
  3. Serves as technical expert for simulation modeling and management system(s) and the corresponding peripheral equipment.
  4. Provides faculty, staff and learners education, training, and assistance on various simulation modalities.
  5. Author’s simulation and modeling instruction guides for internal publication.
  6. Provides technical assistance to users in accessing, operating, and troubleshooting simulation technologies and assets.
  7. Investigates simulation and modeling technologies and provides recommendations on various interactive modalities that will positively enhance the program and curricula.
  8. Evaluates learning activities and facilitates the implementation of program and service improvement plans.
  9. Provides tours and demonstrates functionalities and capabilities of simulation systems (e.g. virtual reality, augmented reality, hybrid simulators, computerized models, manikins, part task trainers, etc.).
  10. Collaborates with Manager of Simulation Operations to ensure resources and back-up resources are readily available to support scheduled learning activities and faculty requests.
  11. Routinely maintains simulation software, corresponding peripheral components, and equipment, and coordinates and implements scheduled updates and documents activities.
  12. Responsible for data back-up and information backup.
  13. Works as part of a team to create and review standard operating procedures.
  14. Collaborates with information technology staff to maintain simulation systems.
  15. Interfaces with vendors to troubleshoot systems problems and/or update systems, peripherals, and equipment.
  16. Maintains confidentiality related to any and all student information including academic performance and simulation outcomes.
  17. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience :
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, other technical discipline, or other related field.
  • Two years of experience with instructional technology and computer based learning or simulation.
Preferred Education & Experience:
  • Experience with multimedia and audiovisual systems.
Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training:
  • Healthcare Simulation.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of simulation technology.
  • Knowledge of advanced troubleshooting skills in information technology.
  • Knowledge in various database management tools, learning management systems, and statistical packages.
  • Skill in Microsoft Office; to include Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Skill in excellent organizational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, exercise good judgement, prioritize work, and use initiative.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.
Work Environment:
  • Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
  • There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
  • This role is an in-person and on-campus position.
