Brief Description of Duties

The Assistant Vice President reports to the Chief Student Development and Success Officer and is a member of the Student Development and Success (SDS) leadership team. The AVP will employ executive level direction for and management oversight for the strategic allocation of SDS resources which includes financial planning and business operations. Leverages best practices and ensures integrated execution and effective engagement, administrative oversight, and operational direction of SDS cluster to enhance the student experience and attain the University strategic goals and objectives as outlined in the Equity Imperative. Ensures comprehensive and innovative enterprise solutions aligning with institutional goals and objectives. The AVP will develop an operational model and plan that fosters an integrative approach amongst the clusters within SDS and in collaboration with university’s strategic goals and objectives. The AVP has principal responsibility for being a visionary, innovative and strategic leader in developing a comprehensive strategy for operational efficiency for the division. AVP will leverage effective utilization and development of human, fiscal and technological resources in the delivery of operational excellence. Advises senior leadership with regard to all-operational, assessment and reporting, as well as developing and implementing compliance programs and working closely with Office of the Chief Academic Officer, Office of the Chief Operations Officer, Office of Planning & Institutional Effectiveness, administrators, and other university constituencies in ensuring activities comply with applicable regulations as well as District, Federal and University policy.

The AVP coordinates and facilitates division-wide assessment and institutional effectiveness processes in support of the continual implementation of the university strategic plan and continuous improvement. AVP collects and analyzes data, also leads implementation of systematic process improvements. The AVP will lead the implementation of university wide customer relationship management (CRM) system. Will serve as liaison with other cabinet units and their designee for implementation. Manages Blackboard (24/7 Support Student Help Hub, Marketing and Enrollment Coaches) accounts and system integrations. In coordination with Center for Advancement and Learning (CAL) identify resource, system and process crosswalks and coordinates university wide training. The AVP will directly manage a Banner Functional Specialist, Associate Director of Data Analytics, and the data processing department. Also, serve as secondary supervisor for division Customer Service Specialists and Assistant Director of Student Success Technology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leads the assessment of departments and systems within SDS (Enrollment Services-Admission & Financial Aid), Athletics, Student Success (Advising, Career Services & Trio) and Development (Accessibility Services, Counseling, CIDMA, Health Services Office of Student Conduct, Student Center, Student Life & Veteran Affairs). Collects, analyzes and uses division data to meet immediate and long-range university objectives; works closely with cross-divisional teams to determine the foci and prioritization of division initiatives.
  • Develops and maintain SDS standard operating policies and procedures manual. Also, the creation of a knowledgebase (database) to support cross functional training and collaboration within the division and university wide.
  • Leads implementation of university wide customer relationship management (CRM) system. Will serve as liaison with other cabinet units and their designee for implementation.
  • Leads SDS system upgrades and integrations (AIM, Banner, Blackboard, Campus Logic, Graduate CAS, Handshake, Maxient, Navigate, Parchment, Presence, TES, and Common App).
  • Serves as University account manager for Blackboard 24/7 Student Help hub, marketing and enrollment coaching partnerships. AVP will identify system integration needs and coordinate IT support.
  • In coordination with VP Marketing assist with development of digital marketing strategies plans for each cluster and coordination of overall division communication plan.
  • Serves as the chair of the Student Success Committee, a university wide cross functional team that identifies and mitigates student barriers to enrollment, persistence and retention.
  • Leads division compliance committee (e.g. A133, NCAA, Veterans and SEVIS) that ensures coordination of internal audits and determines appropriate corrective actions to ensure compliance.
  • Responsible for onboarding and training coordination of new employees to the division.
  • Provide leadership, coordination and facilitation of professional development for division staff. Also, coordinates SDS training for external divisions.
  • Assist Chief Student Development & Success Officer with division budget formulation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
LEADERSHIP & VISION
  • Design and implement a systematic and efficient operations plan in collaboration with the Chief Student Success & Development Officer, AVP Enrollment, AVP & Dean of Students, AVP for Student Success and Director of Athletics.
  • Design a knowledgebase that encourages cross collaboration of the division that also enhances the student experience.
  • Develops a strategy that utilizes current technology platforms, social networking and other forms of communication to recruit students, engage current students and university stakeholders.
  • Prepares and submits short- and long-range operational goals as part of the overall strategic planning process; monitors outcomes and analyzes data for to ensure continuous improvement.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Masters in Higher Education Administration, policy, or a closely related field, required.
  • Seven (7) years of demonstrated successful experience in progressive senior administrative roles and in a leadership position in student services
  • Demonstrated experience with project management and business process re-engineering.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of technological methodologies and platforms that enhance the overall quality of student experience.
  • Evidence of exceptional planning, organization, communication, and team-building skills is essential.

Residency Preference: A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
