The New York University Silver School of Social Work (SSSW) invites applications for two full-time faculty positions - one tenure-track assistant professor, and one tenured associate professor. The 9-month tenured/tenure-track appointment will begin September 1, 2023.
Expertise in the following substantive areas is preferred, but not required: aging, racism and inequality, poverty, substance use and misuse, integrated health, social determinants of health and health equity (e.g., environmental discrimination), child welfare, school social work and the health and well-being of historically marginalized groups (e.g., LGBTQI+, racial and ethnic minority groups). Candidates with methodological and analytical skills in areas of strength and growth at SSSW (e.g., intervention science, implementation science, community-based participatory methods, data science and prevention, digital social work), and those with expertise in practice working with diverse populations are preferred.
A doctoral degree in social work or a related field is required, along with an outstanding record of scholarship, including a well-conceptualized research agenda, evidence of extramural funding (or potential to secure extramural funding for assistant professor candidates), and publications in peer-reviewed venues. In addition to conducting research, the successful candidate will teach in the School’s academic programs (BSW, MSW, PhD, and/or DSW), and be fully engaged in professional service and leadership at the SSSW and New York University (NYU). Applicants should exhibit a commitment to social and economic justice and possess an ability to facilitate conversations concerning privilege, oppression, and intersecting social identities.
SSSW is an international leader in social work research and education and offers outstanding support for scholarship. Located in Greenwich Village on Washington Square Park and in one of the world’s great urban research universities, the SSSW is one of the 14 schools and colleges of NYU, the largest private university in the USA, with students from all 50 states and more than 100 nations. The diversity of the academic community and the incomparable resources of New York City enrich the academic programs and campus life of NYU and the SSSW.
