Carnegie Mellon University’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is searching for a Nanofabrication Equipment Technician to work in the Claire and John Bertucci Nanotechnology Laboratory, a premier research facility in Western Pennsylvania and the “Tech-Belt” (PA-OH-WV) region. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will have the opportunity to work in a cleanroom environment and contribute to the department by maintaining, operating, and repairing semiconductor process equipment and laboratory facilities under the supervision of an Equipment Manager.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Performing routine preventative and corrective maintenance,
troubleshooting and repairs to the Nanofabrication Facility and
equipment.
- Performing installation of new equipment and modification of
existing equipment and facilities.
- Assisting facility users in gaining access to the
Nanofabrication Facility, scheduling of equipment, and account
maintenance.
- Maintaining lab part and supply inventories, as well as
locating and ordering parts and lab supplies by identifying
suppliers, soliciting part numbers and pricing, and creating
purchase order requisitions (in collaboration with department buyer
and approval from Equipment Manager or Executive Director).
- Working with or around hazardous chemicals, materials, or
processes, some of which may require personal protective
equipment.
- Assisting with billing and maintenance of lab forms, user
accounts, and equipment logs.
You should demonstrate:
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Problem-solving and reasoning skills
- Associates degree or equivalent education
- 1 to 3 years of experience in relevant area (electrical and/or
mechanical background preferred)
- Or a combination of education and relevant experience from
which comparable knowledge is demonstrated
- Successful background check
