Job Details

The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, seeks two full-time tenure-track faculty members at the assistant professor level with a specialty in health administration. While topical areas are open, we are particularly interested in scholars in the areas of health services and policy research, health economics, health information systems, and the health care workforce. A focus on disparities in health care or medical ethics is a plus. The faculty members will teach primarily in the CAHME-accredited Masters of Health Administration (MHA) program; other instructional duties will include the undergraduate health administration program, and may include related graduate and undergraduate programs in the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy as dictated by competency and interest. In addition to its undergraduate major and minors in health administration and medical ethics & health policy and its CAHME-accredited MHA, the program is developing a doctorate of health administration (DHA) that it hopes to launch in the near future. According to a recent survey from Modern Healthcare, the Rutgers MHA program was ranked 6th in the nation by enrollment.

The ideal candidate is required to show clear signs that she/he/they will:  

  • Have a doctorate or the equivalent professional degree in a discipline related to health administration. The position is open to a diverse range of disciplines including but not limited to health administration, health policy, health services, data sciences, economics, decision science, management/leadership, medical ethics, or health systems. The candidate will have a completed doctorate by June 1, 2023.
  • Be establishing a research profile of refereed research in high-impact journals and through conference presentations.
  • Demonstrate willingness to secure external grant funds and the ability to be a team leader on funded research supporting and supervising doctoral students and postdoctoral associates.
  • Demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching, with knowledge of inclusive and active teaching practices, as well as being facile in competency-based teaching and assessment.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to network with external stakeholders and to communicate with the public via social media and other sources.

Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy is a professional school offering a doctoral program in Planning and Public Policy; master’s degrees in Health Administration, Public Policy, Urban Planning and Policy Development, and Public Informatics; undergraduate degrees in Public Policy, Planning and Public Policy, Urban Planning and Design, Health Administration, and Public Health.
