Southeast Asian American Student Center
SEAASC’s mission is to provide culturally sensitive supportive services that are essential for Southeast Asian American students at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to achieve their educational goals. We achieve our mission by carrying out programs and activities that help to create a friendly campus environment that enables Southeast Asian American students to fully engage in the process of learning and discovery. The SEAASC plays an important role in the recruitment and retention of Southeast Asian American (Cambodian, Hmong, Lao, and Vietnamese) students at UWM. We work closely with faculty, staff, families, alumni, and Southeast Asian American community leaders to ensure student success.

Job Summary
As a staff member in one of the multicultural centers (American Indian Student Center, Black Student Cultural Center, Roberto Hernandez Center and Southeast Asian American Student Center) in the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Multicultural Student Success Coordinator (MSSC) provides holistic advising to students based on a customized plan for success. The role of the MSSC is to support retention, intervention, and outreach efforts that will lead to increased graduation rate for multicultural students. In order to meet their most pressing needs outside the classroom, MSSC's will connect students to culturally relevant services and resources on campus and in the community.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion currently has one MSSC position open for the Southeast Asian American Student Center.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in higher education counseling or a related field
  • Minimum of two years of experience in advising or relevant field
  • Experience working with students, parents, faculty and staff
  • Experience working with diverse populations





Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel Administration, or related field
  • Experience working in a higher education institution with preference for academic affairs, student affairs, student services, and/or counselling
  • Demonstrate ability to design and implement successful programs using data driven metrics
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills utilizing tact and diplomacy
  • Relevant language and/or community experience to support student and family networks that extend beyond the campus
