Description

The Department of the History of Science and Technology at Johns Hopkins University invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position (open rank) in the history of pre-modern science (antiquity to ca. 1700) focusing on the European area, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023. Candidates should have an outstanding scholarly record and teaching experience, or show significant promise of excellence in academic research, publication, and teaching. The position involves teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as the supervision of graduate students in our Ph.D. program. Candidates must be able to teach one or both of our core undergraduate survey courses in the history of pre-modern science (“Antiquity to Renaissance” and/or “Scientific Revolution”) along with the parallel graduate seminars that prepare Ph.D. students for qualifying exams. Qualifications

A Ph.D. is required, but we will accept applications from doctoral students who expected to fulfill Ph.D. degree requirements by July 1, 2023.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
